After reading "It's hard, it's unforgiving, it's 8-bit. Get used to it." in the Alien Splatter post on the home page. I thought it would be fun to see what games the community thought were hard.
These are 4 games that gave me a hard time.
The Lion King for snes
It started it off easy but gave me a real hard time towards the end. Never went back to finish it.
Contra nes
I beat this the first time using the infamous Konami code. I beat it without the code after beating Contra: Alien Wars snes.
Ikari Warriors nes
Many hours....many hours. I only made it through this on an unlimited lives cheat I found in Nintendo Power magazine.
Ghosts n' Goblins
This game was difficult no matter where I played it. I played at arcades and on nes and snes. I have never finished any of the Ghosts n' Goblins games.
I'm a huge fan of shmups from back in the day. I'd have two suggestions for this list:
First: LIFE FORCE for the NES. I could never beat it without using the Konami code.
Next: Zanac for the NES. I was immensely pleased when I learned that The Guardian Legend (pretty much my favourite shooter for the NES)was this game's spiritual successor.
Finally, Image Fight for the NES. An innovative shooter that I discovered long after the NES's heyday. Contains some aspects of NINTENDO HARD, but generally more forgiving. It stands out because the player could have two wingmen turrets and aim them independently. Really nice multi-directional shooter.
It was a great game from the era of excellent Disney games, but to this day, I haven't beaten the final boss. I don't know how.
B.O.B.
First video game I ever bought. There were so many levels.
And pretty much all the classic Mega Man games.
I tend to like the easier side of the spectrum. I don't play games to be angry. But I appreciate a good challenge if it strikes the right balance.
Sometimes I think I'll have improved in video gaming skill since I'm older, and I go back to hard games and find that I'm even worse. I'm now terrible at Mario Kart 64, for example.
I beat the game life force as a kid net since I was a pretty hateful and angry back then as well, I couldn't accept losing the game and hate is a good motivation for beating your goals.
