Hmmm... good suggestion, it should be fairly easy to come up with a decent enough story and game around it. I can probably make a few OCs while I'm at it.
There's a huge list of things i'd like to try making a fangame of. Ive already made two Dizzy fangames and a Turrican fangame and enjoyed making both.
To make it more interesting i'd want to make a game as it would look on a different computer/console. like say,
Bonk's adventure/Revenge on a C64
Final fantasy 7 on a ZX Spectrum (looking something like Knight Lore) Which isn't as silly as it sounds because a surprising amount of that game is in an isometric perspective anyway.
Kirby's adventure on an Amstrad CPC
Double dragon on a... Atari 7800? yeah i mean jeez the possibilities are endless.
I'd love to make sequels to a lot of old games. Shadowrun snes, Faxanadu, Choplifter, Skykid and many more. I'm not that great at coding though. I played around with Elevator Action a year or so ago.
@Rikus No, its not playable. My coding never seems to work right. I created 3 hotel layouts but just like most of my projects it just stopped working properly after a while. Someday I'll get a coder to help me out. Until then I'll try to find a simple project to work on. I might try pacman or something like that. Even though my ideas usually get bigger than what I can actually do. Last time I tried making a pacman game it was kind of like hunters.
Well just keep trying thats how you will imrpove yourself, always enjoyed your games and speaking of...Oh.. Hunters looks pretty awesome, how could I have missed that one! Will check it out tomorrow

Just for a laugh I did a mock up of what a Super mario world fangame would look like if i made it to look like an Amstrad CPC game. Did that make sense to you guys?
The strange border is because i'd imagine it to work best using the same engine as Prehistorik 2 on the Amstrad CPC.
Here's another one I did a while back, Alex Kidd in miracle world on an Amstrad CPC. This time with the correct border.
Found another. This time Fire and Ice, and i remember starting to make an engine for this game too.
Yeah they're from the same era. Although the Amstrad CPC has more advanced graphics capabilities and 3 screen modes.
The C64 is better for 2D scrolling games because it's hardware supports sprites and scrolling.
Those pictures are supposed to be mode 0 which has double pixel width and a resolution of 160 X 200 and 16 colours (from an overall palette of 27 colours). Any pixel can be any of those 16 colours.
I've messed around with fan games before. I tried to make a Chrono Trigger sequel called Chrono Break, but then I heard about a few other Chrono-related fangame developers receiving threats of legal actions and cease & desist notices from Square/Enix so I gave up. I don't need that kind of attention.
I've always wanted to make a Shadowgate sequel, though. Something that plays more like the point-and-click Beyond Shadowgate on TurboGrafix but with isometric graphics. I started the project years ago - still have the intro movie and a few of the ISO sprites I worked on, but I dropped the project in favor of a few other projects I felt were more important because they were completely original. I've thought about picking it back up once or twice since, but never really got serious about it.
ChrisD> Employer: Say, wanna see a magic trick?
ChrisD> Employee: Uhh… sure, boss.
ChrisD> Employer: Your job! It just disappeared! Pack your things and leave! Pretty good trick, huh?
AndyUK, you're actually talking Demakes ~ Which I love also. I have Made many remakes over the times - I kind of find it more interesting, no because I cannot think of an idea, its like a challenge- "here's the final product, now you do it."
My attempts at fangames usually go sour pretty fast haha. I once made a "3D" Sonic Fangame using the Mode 7 ex extension but this was before I knew about HWA. I'm open to the idea of doing it again in the near future of MMF2 (or MMF3?)
