There's a 2002 game called 'Air Pop Neo' made by Virtually Real. I tried to open its .cca file on The Games Factory, but the error message displays as ''This is not a game file!''.

How is that even possible? And don't get me wrong, I DID select to open .gam or .cca files, but the message still displays as so.

Can any one of you help me, who's an expert with this program, open the MFA for Air Pop Neo?

i believe if they chose "protect game file" when exporting the project all those years ago then that's what'll happen. i also seem to recall clickteam managed to lose the details of the encryption used by TGF1 for that... sad really. i have a whole bunch of really early projects i'd love to look at the guts of.

that said my knowlege on this subject might be out of date. anyone know if someone found a way round it in recent years?

Yes - Air Pop Neo is a protected .gam file to prevent others viewing/copying the code.

It's bad practice to try and crack open someone else's work, which has been protected for a reason by Chris Och. If you want the source that badly, maybe try and contact him directly.

Do protected .gam/.cca files actually have encryption? Or is it just a flag that tells GF not to open it?

Maybe look at it in a hex editor.

I think it was impossible to protect Klik and Play games. So the feature to protect TGF games was probably very welcome.
To be honest I wouldn't have been all that bothered if someone wanted to look at my games. I mean, we're part of a community and TDC wasn't as helpful for newbies as it could have been.

I think there should have been a separate section for tutorials/examples.

It's not like I want to haxx the game or anything, but it's just the fact that I love the game's artworks it has. I'm not panicing about the MIDIs; I can get them. The only thing I want now is the game's artworks, and that's pretty much it.

Say, is Chris Och still on the Internet? Where can I contact the dude?

Also, if you die and people can ask you no more for an open sources code you can make sure to leave it open so people could check about it while you alive and later after you die, it is well spending.
