Ok. I'm making a game at the moment where you're a robot thingy and you have to blast the s**t out of all the other robot thingys. The game will be a side-on view. Now, should the main character have legs and have platform movement, or should he have a jetpack and move in 8 directions?

If you can't decide, then I suggest both.

Make a platformer with some 8 direction levels. Say the character finds a jetpack in a cutscene, or a jetpack is just a standard powerup.

Or, if you don't want to make two sets of sprites, just flip a coin, I guess.

Thanx. Good idea. The problem is i'm useless at doing human style walking animations. If anyones got any tips on how 2 do them id be very grateful...

Usally when I have to animate something walking on two legs, I get up and watch the motions my legs make.
This helps when you dont know where the foot goes next.... etc

Ya wheels whould work but if you wanted a human two legged character I suggest useing a stick man at first..get him to loook goood at walking then slowly add more detail to him and WHAMPO!!! you got urself a two legged freak..errr..I mean walking human thing! lol Also use the "look at urself idea" it works awesomely and I use this for things like characters holding onto books and stuff

You should do what is easiets for you to animate (walking is harder than drawing bits of fire coming out of his jetpack, but dont go and make it look like it's coming ut of it's arse )
