All those cheats out there that rip animations off games by using computer roms, when they make their own games, are dicks. When they make their own game they should make their own graphics as well. It's okay to do it a couple of times but if you are doing it for every game just because you can't be stuffed drawing your animations yourself, you shouldn't be making games. All the professionals out their such as RARE WARE & SQUARE SOFT etc. would never rip animations off another game – they draw and make their own characters, trees, backgrounds and so on. So if you are one of these people who are doing this over and over again, stop cheating your way through the game making industry!

well the fact that most people here are going to spend on average a few weeks on a game? dunno.
squaresoft and rare sell there games for its full original copyrighted deal, as games here are made for fun and for no profit. ok ripping is a bit lame but not always, i have seen people rip, edit and use for games and it turns out well even if they did need a base sprite.
not to sound bad but most peoples original artwork looks basic and ms paint like, and not everyone can spend a week on good looking graphics for one level. it depends.
um..yea

u should always make your own GFX no matter how bad they are, sprite editing is only ok by me if you really really suck at drawing

Ripping is bad, unless your making a fan game, but that doesnt realy make it any body now does it.

i know i have had a few complaints i have had about Spierhead but i asked Fishhead to create this fan game. If some1 created a final fantasy game with ripped off graphics (e.g magic quest online: which has Final fantasy quest graphics) does gthe creator ask squaresoft for permission? no.
and i dont think they care and speak japan

Hey.....calling them dicks is not right.
Square soft and Rare ware? Last time I checked they aren't one man game compnays. They have a person on each section to do that stuff, not just one person doing them all like a lot of people in DC do. I personally dont use game grapics in my games, but I know how it is like not knowing how to sprite or make music (cause I can't do either....except Isometric sprites).
Im the RTS and TBS coder. Expect some games to come out from me later after I finish my Engine tests.
PS: Dont expect the best graphics.

I'm not that much of a graphic artist myself but at least I try and I get the job done. If people can't draw they should keep practicing so they do get better, not just stop and start copying other games. The Games Factory doesn’t give you the opportunity to create music so that’s not on the topic but it does allow you to draw so there is no excuse.
Everybody has drawing talent in them and everybody has the ability to draw animations so there shouldn’t be a reason to copy games. Copying games can be okay if you’re having a bit of a joke. You should never give up on making games because you cannot draw – just keep practicing.

I always try to have and usually do have all original graphics in my games. One thing I dont care about is music, I don't give a crap if its original or not, it takes to much time to come up with tunes for each and every damn game and level. Either they have music and it fits, no matter if they made it or not. I never judge a game for having ripped music.

Look, there's nothing wrong with using some sprites as bases. We're not full fledged game companies, here.
Flat out ripping a sprite is stupid. But if you can take a sprite , edit it drastically, change the colors, the movements , the animations , and you're just use it for a base, then there's nothing wrong with it.
Game design is not all graphics. It's programming, gameplay, sound, music too. If a game is fun to play, sure, it's nice to be looking at original graphics, but if the game's fun to play and has some ripped stuff, I can let that slide.
You can't hinder a person's creativity because they can't draw. Of course...this doesn't mean that you can go and rip an entire sprite of Mario , not change it a bit, make a game called "The Master of the World", and claim it's original.
