I saw the poll about the thumbs-up\thumbs-down system and decided to post this.
Does anyone else think this is a stupid system? By simply labelling a game "Good" or "Bad" you're doing the opposite of helpful - you're just flogging or putting down the game without any kind of constructive criticism.
The system allows anonymous voting. These people are 'cowards' in a sense. If they're going to vote 'thumbs down' for a game, the chances are they're going to post absolutely nothing about it. How is the creator supposed to know how to improve his\her work?
I'm not saying people should post huge articles about the game, but if I think a game sucks, I'll make sure the creator knows why I think that, rather than hiding behind a button with a pretty picture.

The whole idea is a quick way of saying what you think of a game, because everyone was complaining that there was no system that allowed you to rate a game without having to type stuff. Those people that used to type comments are still going to, but this allows everyone to participate without a lot of effort. I dont think that if someone votes Thumbs Down for something and doesnt put a comment it is really going to affect the author. If anything it will make them look at their game and see what needs to be improved. If the problem is big enough, the person will post a comment, otherwise if the game just sucks, they can vote thumbs down.

it's good as far as you can go to the downloads page and see the most popular games based purely on opinion, rather than how many people have downloaded it. so the better games get more attention.
It's one of Murphy's many laws... "Try to please everyone and no one will like it"
I suppose I can make it come up "New!" in the thumbs part next to games submitted in the last week, rather than showing N/A or whatever... That might encourage people. Personally I'd download games that dont have a rating rather than ones that have heaps of votes, but people tell me I'm weird anyway.

I like the idea. Because it seems no one wants to interview friggen games these days because "Oh not 1500 characters is too bloody much"! PFFT!
Most of my bloody posts where I rant and rave are longer than that!
Maybe it's not the BEST system. I think the best system would simple be a 1-10 or 1-5 scale system where the worth a game is an average of that mark given by each member. Exactly the same as a review but without the length review. And perhaps you could have an optional caption/comment in it to. You could either do that vote, or write a review, and either of those will count as you vote for the game.
Because it's starting to get to me that the only games that seem to be getting thumbs are either the really good popular ones, or the really bad ones that cause alot of contraversy. And I have my poor poor Prototype X, sitting there, thumbless, without hardly any comments, and I have no idea if people like it or not. I'm sure alot of people feel that way too!

No, I think the thumbs thing works just fine for a simple voting system. It's just a yes/no thing. Believe it or not, there are all too many idiots out there who'd just give everyone a 0 out of 10 just for the fun of it. And then there are guys who would hide behind it and give their best buddies a 10 outta 10. With the thumbs system, you soften these random blows a little.
But IMHO, the stuff on the Downloads page should be rated by the ratings you get from the reviews, not the thumbs system. The thumbs system just encourages the problem people on the internet always had about randomly dissing someone you don't like then running away. But this time, someone can actually be hurt by these hit-and-runners.
Disclaimer: Any sarcasm in my posts will not be mentioned as that would ruin the purpose. It is assumed that the reader is intelligent enough to tell the difference between what is sarcasm and what is not.

I think it's good. It allows you as SC said a quick way of saying what you think, without having to post down everything you don't like.
0_O lets see out of thoses people only like 50 - 100 actually come here every once in a while anyway... the rest are mostly 'one time' regesterez... heh' I'll bet most of them didn't even bother to change their password from the one sent in email when you sign up...
