I want your opinion on my rts game I'm working on called Elite Sqaudron. See in the preview section.
I am trying to make this game unique with special features not seen in professional strategy games. I'm not asking for an amazing plot cuz I already got one. Atleast that's what I think
What I do want to know is what gameplay features it should have that would make it enjoyable for you.
I think I know what you mean but I don't want to pack it so full of features from other genres that it can no longer be an rts. I just want a few cool features to make gameplay interesting so that I'm not just cloning all of the basic rts's we've seen before.
make better ai.. so u dont have to tell each little unit where u want them to be.. also make little gameplays like capture the flag.. cross a bridge.. etc.. make it anime.. allow units to get in and out vehicles.. hmm, put wild life on the scenario.. make the units fewer but with longer lastability.. also give a name to each unit, so u can keep track of them, give them different hairstyles so they dont look all the same. Make the game with day and night.. with rain and wind.. dunno, take a pick..

Well Active8, try including a unit creator. It's a hard idea but once implemented you no longer need to code any more units, leave people and their mod making.
These are all good ideas, but I forgot to mention that it takes place in space battles... not on land. And the mod maker would be difficult but I'll try.
Hmm... I think you're in a bit over your head with that RTS there. I mean, isometric graphics? Those take a hell lotta effort to make.
Anyways, if you wanna make an original RTS, I suggest one thing: Realism. Few RTS games have em, and realism would really add to the gameplay. You know, dying after the first shot, realistic resource gathering, realistic weapon and troop production. If you're really serious with making this, I suppose I'll help.

Well, I understand completely that isometric won't be easy, but I want to do it to make this game as best I can. Also, thanks for your suggestion on realism.
Um.. it's just "not easy"... it's very, very tiring. You'll have to deal with isometric art, custom isometric engines, making every bullet go isometric, you'll just about double your efforts for every spot that uses an x or a y. If you're doing it just coz it 'looks nice' I suggest you don't.
Oh, and here's another thing I was doing for my game: Unique troops. Ie. everyone is different and if he dies, you can't replace him with just a few dollars. Recruitment works only as effeciently as your reputation, and each time your troops die, you lose some of your rep. If your rep is too low, your troops might consider deserting you and are much more easily converted to the enemy's side (if it's possible). You gain rep by destroying enemy buildings, capturing enemy troops (killing em don't really help), and just completing your mission goals. Your rep is dragged on to the next level.
BTW, could I see more of the game? If you're actually gonna work on such a thing, it would be really cool and may even be similar to that special RTS game I've always wanted to make.
