I'm working on this little game called Combatant: From Peasant to Knight and I've put a LOT of effort into it. As you can see from the preview, it's just about combat in an arena. No graphics, so it's for those who actually believe their claims that gameplay is more important than graphics.

Well, yeah, it sounds simple, and I have a habit of making even the simplest of my games (with the exception of IOTM) into something really big. It's already a problem with the very detailed combat system I'm trying to put in.

I foolishly decided to make it ultra-detailed as well. According to plans, most of the combat battles in the arena are set to be unique, and those that aren't are randomized so that most of em aren't the same. You can sometimes fight the same guys, but it's usually a different battle each time. The enemies taunt you in battle and the battles are somewhat... unpredictable. The critical hit system is quite detailed and it's enough to make any solo coder's head hurt.

As if that's not enough, I made it so that all the NPCs would react to you differently according to what armor and combination of weapons you're using. About 20 or so lines of code just to check the combo (and that's just for the tutorial). Even the training is detailed. The training sessions (ie. leveling up) are made to be over a few 'days' and how fast you actually complete one is based on the results of the combat in-game.

So, now, I'm wondering how many of you would actually want to see such this game out? It's enough of a reward for me to actually finish it, but I just thought that a group of fanatics would help me get off my addiction for these damn addictive games like Golden Axe(1/2/3), The Lost Vikings, and Titans of Steel: Warring Suns.

In case any of you want a sneak peek at the game, maybe I'll include a trailer along with Invasion of the Muz 2 . OK, so I'll release a beta version of it as soon as I finish the training level(s). But if anyone wants a set of the combat rules I planned out in Word, it could probably cut down the time I take to plan it by half. These combat rules were designed for classic AD&D campaigns, but they fit in computer games as well if you got the engine.

Muz,
Whether you finish this game or not, it doesn't matter. The effort and concern already invested into this game shows enough motivation deep inside you to get this far. No doubt you can find more. Your skills are of a high quality and I'm sure someone of your obviously stellar interlect and creative integrity could by any means conclude whether you require not motivation but simply a reason to complete this game. Has this incomplete concoction completed it's required task in your mind, or do you feel you require closure concerning this creation. The choice lies in your eager hands as to whether you require motivation, reason or simply and excuse to finish something you know you should, but really don't want to.

Errr, I mean, 'Get yo ass in gear G!'

Show me the power child,
I'd like to say,
That I'm down on my knees today,
Gives me the butterflies,
Gives me away,
'Til I'm up on my feet again,
I'm feeling outshined.

Your biggest mistake with this game is the way you made all the work tedious. You don't want to do a lot of tedious stuff in your games or you will quickly lose interest.I usually get around this by making a system where values can be calculated through multiple instances, send them through a calculation(or whatever I am trying to do; even if it doesn't involve variables) and use the result to do whatever. This might make things more basic but honestly, I don't think it takes away from gameplay. I hope someone understands what I am saying here.

Wow, thank you for all the motivation guys. You've all just inspired me to continue on it for about a week or so before my mind starts drifting off again.

Hmm... anyone want any characters named after them?

I wouldn't mind Muz old pal, but Muggus is a kinda wierd name in any context!

Maybe you could let that motivate you...You could have the first ever game with a character called Muggus in it!

Whether that be a good thing, i'm not sure, I doubt it, but it would be a feat for sure!
