worm wars in TGF would not of used so many active objects without them going invisble

To make an object transparent, go to its Object Preferences and set the "Ink Effect" to Semitransparent. It's sometimes difficult to get a good effect this way - experiment with the % value.
Or, to make things faster, there's a cheaper effect - dithering. Put a "chessboard" grid of transparent pixels across your object, so that only every second pixel shows.

Wong is right about the transparent objects, I've used that in many a TGF game.
