I have the magical MOO2 extension for TGF, and I'd quite like to convert one of my games into an online game. But my question is this: how? Do you have to send and recieve individual player and bullet possitions or does it handle that for you or what? The object doesn't seem to have any immediate options other than signing on and sending text, and the computer I'm making this on is offline so there's not much room for me to experiment. It's all very mysterious... or is it?

Why the hell am I on the computer at 1 in the morning? No, don't answer.

MOO2 isnt really used anymore. I suggest upgrading to MooClick/MooSock/MooGame (Which is available [excluding MooGame] to MMF 1.5 users.

The difference is MOO2 doesnt have any servers left, since it relies on old technology. Plus, MooSock doesnt require a server at all, it will allow you to connect directly to another computer (which is the way to go, even though it's harder to do).

I suggest going to www.3ee.com and going through the documentation there.

As far as sending information goes, MooClick and MooSock will require you to send the information yourself. That will usually mean creating a delimited string to send information (for example: "184;116" could represent the X and Y positions of Player 1). MooGame I'm relitavely sure can send entire object information at once without needing to do any processing yourself, but I dont have MooGame so I dont know for sure. Either way you can get done whatever you want to do by using either MooClick or MooSock, it'll just take more time.

As I said, I recommend reading the documentation at 3EE to get started, since they created the extension, and they have a lot of information on every condition, action and function available, you should be able to work out what to do from that. If you have any specific problems post back here and someone can try to help you there. But I dont think anyone is going to explain from start to finish how to do a multiplayer game

Yep. A good way of doing that is to have the object move based on local calculations unless the other player changes something. That's difficult in a 3D game, but in a 2D game where you have a limited number of directions (say your making an 8-dir birds-eye action game) then you can simply send information to the other player when a key is pressed or released. For example, if the user presses the left key, it's obviously going to continue going left unless the key is released or another key is pressed as well. But as has been said, that can get very complex. I suggest doing it the old fashioned way first, since you've never done it before, as it is a lot easier to get started.

I think mooclick is the best, but moogame has an easier less daughnting interface. They both have nearly the same features except moogame's DR doesn't work and you can't host a dedicated server (Was that it? Anyway something bad with servers). But then again you do have to buy moogame as it doesn't come with mmf1.5 so Go Mooclick!
