I dont care if this was posted a short time ago, I missed it, and responding is something to do anyway.
I will have to say dark cloud 2, 1 is great too, and/or super smash bros melee. Those games I have either played the longest total time, or have kept my interest longest, I have had super smash bros for a year and still play it off and on. Dark cloud 2 has consumed 40 hrs of my life and I am still interested, most games get boring to me after maybe 10-20 hrs, if they even are games that go on that long.
Nah, FPS wise it has to go to Halo. It wasn't perfect, but it just draws a guy in. I've probably put 500 hours into the game -- and that's a conservative estimate. Beyond that, I'd say Doom II or Marathon Infinity. Those were classics.
I'd also agree that Tetris was great. Since you bring up a timeless masterpiece, let me throw my own old-school favorite into the mix. Lode Runner: The Legend Returns for PC/Mac in about 1993. One of the greatest 2-player PC games ever made. On top of the addictive gameplay, there was also a very versitile editor which extended the replay value to no end -- my friends and I would make levels and then exchange them. I still make levels to this day.
Definately the Twister. Man, that's my favourite board game ever and it's just awesome when you play it nude with a couple of hotties...oh...OH...your talking about video games...nevermind...

I have to say that I didn't enjoy the DKC series that much. It was alright, but it had all been done before. The graphics were the major selling point of those games I think. It was a generic platformer with decent polish, but then again, the whole industry was at a standstill as that point.

Mine is Zelda, all of them were great, so i cant really decide . oh and Zombies on SNES was a classic, although it didnt become very big but it was made by Lucasarts and was a very good game none the less.
