The majority of the world likes even loves coke and all coca cola amitil products (fanta, lift, powerade etc.)
But what I'm going to tell you is "why" vanilla coke, cherry coke, diet coke, diet vanilla coke and just plain coke keep you awake.
Everyone only goes to the shallow part of the answer. They say that its because it has caffiene in it. Yes that's true, but its only a part of the answer.
When you are sleepy or even if your not, and you drink coke, the caffiene in it goes through your body and poisons your body. Caffiene is a poison.
The reason why you stay awake is because you have to while your body fights off the poison or you will die! Thats the reason why the kid that ate 7 viking bars died a couple of years ago.
He ate so much guirana and caffiene that his body could not fight all the poison and he died.
Viking bars got taken off the market as soon as that happened but then the creators (nestle i think) took it to court and they brought it back to the market. A few days after it was put back on the market a young adult ate 5 of them and was put into hospital and almost died but was very very lucky to survive. Back to coke though...
I love coke and I'm still going to drink it. But what I'm trying to tell you is that caffiene is deadly. Don't drink too much coke at one time (eg. 5 litres in 20 minutes) thats if your bladder can handle that.
One more thing... your probably wondering why you aren't dead since you drank coke and you fell asleep. Well if you drank an average amount of coke about an 1 1/2 hours before you went to sleep its because your bosy had fought it off. If you drunk more than average you will find that you couldnt get to sleep but you were just lying in bed until your body fought it off and settled down. If you drank coke and fell asleep straight away, It's because the caffiene hasnt reached your stomach and liver yet. Caffiene travels fast to your liver and stomache, but if your a quick sleeper, then you will be asleep, but fight the poison off by having dreams. The reason for this is because having dreams keeps your mind awake and therefore makes your body work.
If you take sleeping tablets straight after or during coke, then despite the possibility of death by all the drugs you put into yourself, it is dangerous and if your lucky you will have a nightmare and fight it off then, or wake up during the night fight it off then. or if you survive, wake up the next morning and fight it off. There is of course the possibility of death though.
If your a coke fanatic, i dont blame ya, but its best to keep your intake limited, and it maybe safer to drink it in the morning/afternoon or when you plan to have a late night. Thank you for reading, thuis info. is 100% true.
hmmm, But I thought sleep was a better way of Fighting of Poison and Diseases because your in a low state of activity. I don't agree with you (In a healthy way of course).

How long do you think people have been drinking soda? Hmm... a hundred years? Yea, thats sounds about right. You think that you're going to die if you drink caffeine and go to sleep? I really doubt it. Dreams? Buddy, your body can work without you dreaming. Besides, the point you probably dream every single night regardless of what you drink. Does your body have to deal with it? Of course, it has to digest your food also. If you didn't digest your food you would die. Chill out man.

Caffiene is weak man. Hear me WEAK!
It's effects are nothing compared to those of other over the counter drugs, like nicotene found in cigarettes, and wonderful alcohol found in everything I tend to drink.
Plus, cola does not have as much caffiene in it as coffee, which again, it's effects are weak.
I think you over reacting to something that we hardly need to care about. Your probably more likely do your body harm by the large amounts of sugar in these beverages than that the wimpy amount of caffiene they put in it.

Um...the caffeine in coke is far too diluted to actually kill you (and it would be on the verge of impossibility to drink enough in a small amount of time to do much damage)
Nicotene in an impure does bugger all it is just addictive. It is the other substances in cigarettes combine with the addictiveness that make cigarettes dangerous. That said, pure nicotene will kill.

I dont think you wanted to post a lie, maybe its true or not. What I do know is that I hate big companies.. coca-cola, microsoft, mc donalds.. I hate them all, I hate their commercials too.
We've got a commercial here in uruguay that is a long long music about whatever you can think of exept food.. and it says that "I love mc Donalds".. well I'll tell you what, I hate mc donalds now..

anyway if caffine was damaging to health in such a way that we should be carefull of how much we drink, it would say so on the packaging like cigarettes now do.

jesus christ, michael r, i think you drink too much coke. almost anything (from salt to pot) is safe in moderation... i don't plan on drinking 5 liters of coke in 20 minutes... i have a can from time to time, sure, but i don't drink it as some form of liquid stimulant.
i couldn't live without my morning cop of coffee though. you wouldn't like me if i hadn't had my coffee.
it's not an infection, it doesn't need to get "fought off"... it just needs filtering through the kidneys. It keeps you awake because it takes the place of a chemical that usually binds to certain receptors to put you to sleep, without actually doing that (so there's no space for the real chemical). Actually, he is right. Caffeine is not very healthy for you, but it's not nearly as bad as all the sugar in Coke. Sugar is very unhealthy, and makes people fat. I quite drinking soda and other sugary snacks about 3 years ago and I feel much better than I used to.

Coke is best enjoyed mixed with such great liquids of the spiritous variety like bourbon, scotch and, my personal favourite, over proof dark rum.
On it's own the effects of the drugs in it just don't do it for me, thus spiking it is the best notion for those wanting some action, yet that trademark sweet smooth refreshing taste that coke is known to deliver time after time....Ah that'll make your bull run!

It's not fat that makes you fat. Fat doesn't absorb to you so easily than sugar, white wheat and other cleaned carbohydrates.
What i dont understand is why if you eat a chocolate bar you become fatter than if you eat a bowl of broccoli if the chocolate has less mass and volume
Because the chocolate bar consists of starchy carbohydrates, while the broccoli does not. By the way, excercise cannot correct junky eating. You must do both if you want to be healthy. In fact, eating right is probably even more important than excercise. I eat pretty well but I don't excercise like I should.

first of all he is right. But it slowly works away. Also in coke the carbanation dissolves parts of your bones weary them down over the years. But if you have a high tolerence (like me, only a few people have it) you dont have to worry as much but its still dangerous. It wont happen all at once. Like i said it wears you down over the years.

Yes... well... interesting posts. I'm not saying anything from myself ok? This is right out of a book. I would have thought it would be true if it was a published book but oh well... what i do know is that if you put a nail in a glass of oke, it dissolves in like 6 days or something (thats not good). what harm is it doing to peoples bones? all people who drink lots of coke everyday. I betcha you'll have bone troubles when your old.

All of those things are not natural for humans to eat in large amounts. The effects of eating to much sugar will not pop up until you are older, but it WILL catch up with you. Sorry, but thats just the way it is.

In the original post he said you stayed awake so you can get rid of the poison. Make ya mind up, Mick!
Also, we only dream at the end of our nightly sleep. And going to sleep for only 4-5 hours will leave you fresher in the short term, as after 5 hours, we go into a deep sleep, meaning it is harder for our brains to switch back on.
Caffeine belongs to the xanthine chemical group. Adenosine is a naturally occurring xanthine in the brain that is used as a neurotransmitter at some synapses. One effect of caffeine is to interfere with adenosine at multiple sites in the brain including the reticular formation. Caffeine also acts at other sites in the body to increase heart rate, constrict blood vessels, relax air passages to improve breathing and allow some muscles to contract more easily. In other words, it keeps your body too active to actually fall asleep. Caffiene IS lethal, at doses of about 10 grams. Thats 80-100 cups of coffee in rapid succession. Not easy.

Hell, most of the beers I drink mainly consist of Sydney water!
And as discussed earlier, alcohol is a much more effective and dangerous drug than caffiene, so don't listen to Michael R...although he does have a wicked first name...listen to me...I know about good drugs that kick the pants off the petty caffiene stuff we're hearing so much about.
