I am a profesional 3D animator and game designer. I have recently discovered MMF, and am reading the Help files, and studying examples.
Are there any folks here who are proficient at MMF 1.5 who would be interested in collaborating with me on creating a free Space Opera-themed game called, "Beyond the Rim?" I would host the game on a server once it's done, and support players through continued development of game text content and fixes. Everyone would get credit, and the engines we create could go into the MMF public domain, if we decided.
I envision "Beyond the Rim" as a multi-player game that blends turn-based strategy elements with the trading card game genre.
What the players do and how they do it will impact the game world. Therefore, we would need to develop dynamic gameworld engines, such as, the Dynamic Culture Generator and the Contextual Event Generator. Plus, NPCs would have Dynamic Personalities, so how they are treated, and what they experience influences how they behave.
Any takers? I would be the primary designer, but we would all work together on the coding, and have equal input into the game world. I want to have some fun learning MMF, and actualize a game at the same time. Please let me know.
Roger, I appreciate your enthusiasm, but there is virtually no possibilty of a project of that scope getting completed. There's just too much work to be done, and you won't find people as dedicated to your vision as you are, especially here. For a first game, you should probably try something a lot simpler, like an offline action game of some sort. As you get better, and as you find better people to help you, you'll be able to take on more challenging projects, but for now, the best advice is really to start small.
Actually, I've been developing games for years, so I look forward to the challenge of doing this project in MMF. The art in this game will look radically different from the type of images I've seen in the games posted on these sites. But then, the type of game I'm developing will be a lot more involved, being a sim, and all.
I plan on getting a fully working version done in six months. I'm starting with the NPC Generation engine, and I'll move up from there.
Show me the power child,
I'd like to say,
That I'm down on my knees today,
Gives me the butterflies,
Gives me away,
'Til I'm up on my feet again,
I'm feeling outshined.
