Welcome to The Philosophical Discussion topic of The Daily Clicks misc. forum! Here you can discuss amounts of philosophical question, among:
[f]If a tree falls in the forest and nobody is present to hear it, can it be heard anyway[f/]
Yes, if the tree was falling and nobody would hear it because anyone and everyone is absent from the location, should the waves wich is flying in the air be classified as sounds which can be heard even if noone can hear it? Or is it just some kind of expanding air which vibrate in our ears and is classified as... noise?
[f]A glass filled with milk stays on the table. You drnk up 50% of the content. Is the glass now half full or half empty?[f/]
What is more important: The absence or the presence? Do you count how many leaves that have fallen or how many which stays at the tree (even if the tree already have fallen (: )
[f]What is the meaning of life?[f/]
Here is an intresting question. Why are we here? What are we doing? Don't we have something better to do then be born, educate ourself for a work, work for food, reproduce ourselves and wait for The Grim Reaper to come? If not, why do we do that anyway?
Please post your ideas and opinion. Got any other philosophical subjects? Post them here too. Thank you for your time, and please continue visit joNickArt Entertainment website: http://www.jonickart.tk/ .

there is no meaning of life. we seek meaning to justify our existence as we believe that, without meaning, we are useless. so "meaning of life" is just a narrow minded human invention, created so we dont seem so small and insignificant. when in fact we are. espescially you non-admin types.
The glass is half-empty because you're measuring from a point when it was full - if you were filling it with milk, it would pass the point of being half-full rather than being half-empty, and the same is true for the reverse.
That's why most people say that a pint milk bottle with half a pint of milk in it is half-empty, and if it has half a pint of water it's half full - you're first measuring from full, then measuring from empty.
If anyone bothered to read that, well done. Also, the meaning of life is to do something worthwhile - don't you watch Red Dwarf?
i think the original question is if a tree falls in the forest and there is no one to
hear it, does it makes a sound?. well, it's the same. yes, it makes a sound, yes it can be heard. only that there is no one around to do it. but it has to make a sound, if not, it would be violating physics laws
wong chung is right, it depends on the action that you were doing when it got interrupted thus leaving the glass at that state. If you were drinking it, you were emptying it, therefore, the glass is half-empty.
and as pete said, life has no meaning. seriously. we just do things. go to school, get married, ans stuff, but I don't see the point. at the end you die. maybe the meaning of life is death
The meaning of life: state of being alive;the condition that distinguishes organisms from inorganic objects and dead organisms, being manifested with metabolism, growth, reproduction, etc.; the animate existence or period of animate existenceof an individual; the period of existance or activity of something inanimate;a living being; living things collectively;a particular aspect of existance; sum of experiences and actions that constitute a person's existance; biography; animation, liveliness; a manner of living
last meaning: a magic ability than can be used to revive a someone. It usually costs 10 mp.

btw, for the record, "42" is not the meaning of life. it is the answer to "the ultimate question".
edit: but apparently there have been different things that will be available in a few years, they just havent been tested enough yet
edit edit: oh, philosophical. nevermind me

A philosophy post eh...well prepare for it to get a shit load longer...cause i'm here
Firstly...tree falling in forest...yeah whatever...really stupid riddle when you think about it. Probably thought up before they realised that sound consists of waves that slowly lose intensity, therefore volume, at a distance...through the inverse square law, of course. So, in theory, that sound will be heard by, but depending on how loud the original sound was and how close the observer is, they will no doubt hear the sound. But most of us won't hear it because the waves have gotten to the point where they are almost inaudiable, or have been slown down to a point of rest.
The glass...
Essentially this riddle is a measure of perspective. Essentially the optomist will always see the glass as half full, whilst the the pesimist will see the glass as half empty. And of course you've got your engineer who says, the glass is half the size it needs to be...but yeah, that's what I learn at uni
Meaning of life?
Debate as much as you want on this one. But humans are living creatures. We are mammals. Therefore, we are animals, nothing more nothing less. Sure we are super intelligent in comparision to others that dwell on our planet, and have dominated most of which for centuries. But being animals we have a means that is probably more obvious in other creatures.
And that is specifically to pro-create. As stupid and as basic as it seems, all life lives to continue their own race. With a complex society such as ours it's really hard to see this, but basically animals out in the nature live to be raised, grow old enough to reproduce, find a mate, create a family, and raise that family...and that's it. There you go...meaning of LIFE...because humans ain't the only thing alive on this planet FFS!
I think the best philosophical debates however, are the religious ones...cause I love nothing better than abusing relgious types and their beliefs!

Lol, geeks who don't have life wondering what's the meaning of life.
Tree - Using quantum physics it states that for something to happen it must be observed or measured, as nobody was there to observe or nothing really, quantum physic states that the sound would not exist. IF a bird or other mammal was there then it would make a sound.
Glass of milk - It is both at the same time, half empty and half full.
Meaning of life - Lets assume there is a god or divine omnipotent, which changes the meaning to "we die and goto his/her/it's kingdom forever", assuming this is wrong and science is right, we have no purpose, we were merely created by the result of evolution and a supernova from a close star.
(Yes i have an un biased and balanced opinion on philosophy and science)
The meaning of life is to give life meaning... meaning can be interperated as going out and getting tanned while playing football or sitting at a computer pale as an albino going "Na-hoy!"
If a tree falls in the forest it would of course make a sound... *creaaaaaakk - CRASH!!!!!!!*
And as for the milk, well if some dumbass fills up a glass with the intention of only drinking half of it they deserve to be shot...

I'd like to say,
That I'm down on my knees today,
Gives me the butterflies,
Gives me away,
'Til I'm up on my feet again,
I'm feeling outshined.
If you ask me (I weakly doubt it) I think we all are waiting for something to happen. Not something small, like the bus or the computer, but something big such as Jesus being reborn, the apocalyps or ragnarrök (the ultimate war and doom ofcourse, not for the MMORPG ) but anyway, thats just what I think, I guess you know more about this sort of stuffs.

buster, black is not a shade, it's an absence of light.
you just answered your own question. the light that comes from a monitor is the same as any other light

Nothing couldn't be clear or a shade of anything is because even a shade is "something". And it being something defies the meaning of the word nothing.
Clear is also a perception which in turn is "something" and that too defies the meaning of the whole principle of nothing.
I think that Gandalf would get to be an elf and save the day. Then Samwise would probably lose the day, but Galdalf is cool. Aragorn would go to the Dwarf and get killed by an axe. Thats about it.
Just blow the fucking movie for me!!! How about a -
SPOILERS - PEOPLE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE YET COS THEY WERE TOO BUSY WORKING LAST WEEK COS THEY CONTRIBUTE TO SOCIETY PLEASE STOP READING
Is that too much to ask??????

An old account of mine, recently cleared out. It's a blast to the past, the age was marked as 14 when I found it. If you know where to look, you can track me. Au revoir.

Two ways to view this in my oppinion.
1) It is completely full, it is half air and half milk
2) It is way more than half empty, due to all of the space between the atoms/molocules/etc.
