Here is some questions like you to answer or discuss:

1. If you would have a chance to have the greatest year you can imagine, but forget about it as fast as it is over; would you take it?

2. Should people gene- manipulate themself to create the perfect human?

3. You are in a mall. You accidently brought your gun with you. Suddenly, a man rushes in with his gun and keep the entire mall as hostage. The police gather around the building. You know that before they arrest him, he would kill at least 11 human beings. You have an oppurtunity to kill him without getting any other victims killed. You know that if you negotiate with him, he would kill you without doubt. Would you or wouldn't you take the oppurtunity?

4. You are in a similar situation, but are now one of the eleven first hostages. Would or wouldn't you want 'you' in the previos question, want him to kill the maniac?

5. A man have lived in a desert in his entire life, knowing what is right and wrong and without benefitting the regular community priveliege. He commit a crime which is being reported. Should or shouldn't that man be punnished, should the community take away something, when they haven't gave him something in return?

1. No. Existence lays only in memories. One cannot live only in the present, and without remembering the past, it would be as if it never existed (and yet, you'd have nothing to show for that year). Go read "Waiting For Godot"... it sort of relates to this.

2. Sure, why not? I read Brave New World, and I think it's a good plan. A society of perfect humans -- all happy and all equal.

3. Yes, I'd kill him. His life is less important than the lives of others who haven't resorted to crime because tehy couldn't figure their lives out.

4. Oh you know it.

5. Hmm... this one's kinda tricky. On one hand, he may not have committed a crime based on his own concept of right and wrong. On the other hand, he was violated social norms and should then be punished... at the same time, he has been isolated from that very society and should not neccessarily be subject to their rules. It's a tough call.

1.
Oh man, that year I wouldn't remember it anyway cause i'd be so out of it!

2.
Define the perfect human? Genetic engineering is cool and all, but you gotta decide what would be wise to have and not to have. I mean people would surely be jealous of those who are genetically better, and you'd probably create a huge amount of discrimination against the engineered and the pure breds.
It raises alot of issues, and almost seems unfair. You'd get alot "Well back in my days we never use to...blah blahs"...and I'm sure pure bred humans would feel alienated and eventually die out, kind of taking away the true meaning that is left to our lives.
I mean what challenge would there be if you perfect? What would you do with yourself?

3.
Not that I have a gun, or would be stupid enough to 'accidently' bring it in loaded and all into a mall! But, I spose i'd take my chances, be a hero, maybe not kill the poor bastard, but at least enough to disarm him or incapcitate him to the point where he can't do any harm, ie shoot him in the hands, arms, legs, feet. Maybe let him prove his intention first though, ie, if he shoots first.

4.
Of course. Almost seems like a stupid question. If my life were in grave danger from some maniac who would probably kill me if he had that chance without even thinking, I wouldn't mind seeing him dead. Call me sadistic if you will, but I value my life a fair bit.

5.
Depends on the crime. I mean if it's something stupid like jay walking where he is not aware of the road rules, or stealing something where he is not aware of commerse, then I think he's better off being educated and being set free, cause he's not doing anything really serious.
But if he murders someone, then yes, maybe then it would be more feasible to punish them.

Ethics? I've read about those...

Show me the power child,
I'd like to say,
That I'm down on my knees today,
Gives me the butterflies,
Gives me away,
'Til I'm up on my feet again,
I'm feeling outshined.

1. No, what good is there in having a great time if you can't remember it? Arguably, experience itself is only possible with recall, so you may as well not be experiencing that year at all.

2. If they want, but it would be a stupid idea. As Einstein said, two things are infinite; "the universe and mankind's stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe"

Somehow, mankind would screw it up. They always do.

3. Either attempt to negotiate regardless, or do nothing. It is not my responsibility to save the lives of those present unless they are members of my own family, or subordinate to me. If I were pretty certain of my accuracy, I may shoot his gun arm, giving police time to aprehend him. Legally that would come under self defence, so i'd be okay.

4. I wouldn't want to die, but I wouldn't wish death on him either. However, I would not criticise someone for shooting the man if they believed that to be the only solution. I just wouldn't do it myself.

5. Yes, the man still has no right to take something that is not his, or to commit any other crime. He should be prosecuted and sentenced like anyone else.

1. Yes. Even though I wouldn't remember it, I would be certain it was free of mundane things, like school and chores.
2. A giant "NO". Everyone has a different idea of perfect". Perfect would be anything that would be worth having to it's full extent. The genetic freaks would be extremely strong, smart, and invincible. If these people found out they could do harm, the world would be doomed. One mutant could take over the earth. They would be motivated to do so because they'd be outcasts. Normal people would be afraid, knowing the biohumans could easily kill them, and the biohuman would feel shunned and different. Even if he made friends, since his lifetime is perfect, he would watch them die off, leaving him. He would become a killer dictator.
3. This is a matter of intrests. If it was some psycho who had an arrest warrant on him, and the hostages were innocent people, yes. However, if I kew the shooter as a friend, I would, but would feel severely traumatized, possibly to the point of suicide.
4. Yes. No questions.
5. Again, a matter of intrest. If he did something against another human physically, punish him. If he did something else (i.e. jaywalking, stealing), then no, as they have no roads, stores, or many material possesions in the desert.
