What's everyone's opinion of the most overrated games (Klik or Non-Klik)?
Don't get me wrong... I like it and own it, but I think Halo is probably the most overrated game. Sure, it's pretty. The gameplay is pretty standard, though (although the vehicles are a nice touch). As much as I like this game, I still think it's overrated. Plus, I finished the game on the first two difficulty settings in the same week that I bought it. You get tired after shooting 200 of the exact same enemy time and time again. Multiplayer still rocks, though.
Need For Speed Underground is very overrated. It's just like any other racing game, only with Nitrous Oxide boosts chucked in to give it a vague relation to "Too Fast Too Furious". Driving around in circles (or squiggly lines, depending on the track - same shit, different bucket) for hours and having to restart if you stuff up just once (in most occasions, one stuff up will make you last in the race, or at least in a position that you won't catch up in time, like with most racing games) just isn't for me. And if you're good enough to unlock the next car, you can do it all over again, but faster! Yay! This may be a biased opinion, though... as I don't like any racing games unless they're based around multiplayer fun and have some form of weaponry or at least something other than racing, ie. Mario Kart.
yeah Halo
it's TOO and ENOUGH repetitive.. the graphics are nice and the engine is good too, I like the vehicles, but what the fuck, it seems you're walking around in circles in some levels. the one in which you follow the robot is plain stupid, always the same stuff and that fat monster. couldn't play multiplayer though, it should be good
I bought my younger brother an X-Box for his last birthday. I would have bought one much sooner, but I just can't find any good games on sites that look interesting. It just appears that X-Box has too much of the same. It's either, what, a military spy game, a racing game, or a big robot game? I keep going around asking people for good X-Box titles, and all I keep getting is "Umm... You know, Halo's a really fun title!", and I'd always tell them back "Umm... and...?"
It's nice to see he's having fun with his X-Box, though. He's bought several titles for it, but I have never laid a finger on the X-Box or a controller for it ever.
Most overrated Click game? Easy. Eternal Daughter. -_-
Why? I dunno. No matter how perfect and glamourous of a game people make it out to be, it's just a big broken thing with pretty flowers and sparkles around it. That's why I haven't beaten it yet. =o
Overrated Klik game: Eternal Daughter. It's graphics are amazing, but the engine feels really sloppy.
Overrated Recent Commercial Game: Sonic Heroes. This game is pulling 8's, and yet it doesn't even hold a candle to the original Sonic Adventure released on Dreamcast 5 years ago.
Need for Speed Underground's great - it's like a Ned simulator (don't know if that makes any sense if you don't live in Scotland) - get a cheap car and completely ruin it by adding unnecessary spoilers, skirts, neon and flames down the side.
I think that MGS2 is rather overrated. I liked it when it came out, but looking back on it it really isn't nearly as good as the original, it doesn't seem to hold together as a game very well without the original's innovative (and bizarre) use of the physical PS console itself in moments like the Psycho Mantis fight.
I'm not really a fan of the later GTA games, I could never really get in to them... perhaps it's just me, but I think they worked so much better in 2D.
I'd say that any 3d Mario game is overrated. Especially Super Mario 64. Sonic is the only platformer that retained enough of its luster when it went 3d. Sunshine was a little better than 64 with the additional freedom. But nothing will replace a flying Yoshi...
Darmani the strong, Darmani the brave, Darmani the.......................idiot who fell off a cliff!
Hey Darman, it's been reported that the next Mario game they'll be working on will be based more on classic style game play rather than the stuff they've been putting out recently. I could bare with Mario64 and I'd run around repeatedly in the world there just bouncing and flying around, but Mario Sunshine just stretched the limits to my taking the Nintendo company's Happy Happy Joy Joy game necessity attitude... if Yoshi's Story on the Nintendo 64 didn't do it first. ><
Anyway, I hope the next Mario game that Nintendo released is based on platform with lots of power ups and levels... rather than five levels with ten missions each.
I think the main problem with Sonic Adventure is that it was more in-depth than the old platform games and gave each character more... well, character, and Sonic had an American accent that sanded off two layers of my laminated coffee table.
"Say you're hanging from a huge cliff at the top of mt. everest and a guy comes along and says he'll save you, and proceeds to throw religious pamphlets at you while simultaniously giving a sermon." - Dustin G
Actually, Wind Waker is not really that much worse than OoT. I just wish it had more dungeons. I can't really see anything else thats "worse" about it than OoT.
Anyway, these topics are silly. There is no such thing as an "overrated" game. If the majority of the population and game reviews say a game is good, then it's good. The few people who don't like the game then claim it's "overrated". Just because you personally don't like it means nothing. The only true indicator of a good game is if the majority of the people like it or not, because you can't please everyone.
99 percent chance that the above post is 100 percent correct.
'It's just like any other racing game, only with Nitrous Oxide boosts chucked in to give it a vague relation to "Too Fast Too Furious"'
It practically is '2 Fast 2 Furious', what with the neon lights and N2O and stupid spoilers. Give me GT4 anyday, or preferably Destruction Derby Arenas since I haven't finished GT3 yet.
most overrated commercial game: Vice city
most overrated klik game: Fishhead 3 (people use it as a benchmark for platform games)
most overrated machine: X-box
that's very noble of you to suggest your own game as being overrated...1

i disagree with halo being overrated; it's a fun game and the weapons are the best designed i've ever seen. like in most games, people discard a pistol straight away, but in halo the pistol can be used to devestating effect... it's not your standard shooter.
i must agree with WCB about MGS2. it was a big pile of poo; if i want to watch something more than i play it i'll buy a film, not a game.
as for click game, i do think that fishead 3 is a bit too overhyped. as for platformers its gameplay is fairly bog standard; it's the graphics that set it apart.
Mr. Coffee, at the start of the topic, I asked for everyone's opinion of the most overrated games. Like you said, there can't be a game with the attribute of being "overrated" because it all revolves around people's opinions. I'm just asking what the other people in this community think.
Yeah, I forgot to say which Klik game I thought was the most overrated, and that'd have to be Super Ken Senshi (I hope this isn't a flame war fuse). As much as I did enjoy it to start with and as envious as I am of Fallen Angel's talented members, it got old really quickly, and I haven't played it since. It has had a lot of work put into it, though. Plus, silly me hasn't even tried the multiplayer side of it, so I'm probably missing the whole main point of the game, although I can't see how multiple players can enhance the SKS experience to a high enough degree to make me want to play again and again.
I have to say that I enjoyed ED, even though I never finished it. It was a bit overrated, I have to agree, but I think it was worth the download.
Mmm I do agree with Fishhead 3 being over-rated. Most people who hang around at Klik-Me and Total Klik believe it's just a bog standard platformer (like I do), but everyone at TDC seems to love it because they've never seen great graphics in a klik game before. Personally I think it's average at best.
As for commercial games, I think Metal Gear Solid 2 is way over-rated. The boat part is very cool, I like that, but the Big Shell is very bland, and very samey. I'd even go as far to say that Metal Gear Solid on PS1 is at least three or four times better, due to the diversity in locations.
yeah fishhead 3 is overrated, but not really overhyped, I just submitted a demo, and the full version some months later....causing 2 TDC wars. I am still surprised to see this game has so many downloads, as it was not even supposed to be a real game, just something like an addon for fishhead 2, for somebody who liked that game...blablabla. I didn't hype it at all. if u don't know this game go here: http://www.create-games.com/download.asp?id=2694 . dont miss it!
Counterstrike's Overated. Eternal Daughter Didn't intrest me in the least, I believe it's overated. It's polished but not fun. One game I suggest to every gamer is called "Twinsen's Odyssey", It's very fun and lenient with many puzzels and an interesting story. It's an old game made in '97 or so, and never did sell but It had good reviews and gives many hours of fun. YOu could prolly pick it up for 5$. Check it out sometime!
GTA: Vice City is definitely overrated, and I've been anti-Nintendo since the Genesis days . It's repetitive, the aiming is poor, the physics are as horrible as in Half-Life 1, and generally the only fun thing in it is just driving around enjoying the sunset and the radio. But I thing you can knock out the aiming problem for the PC version. Either way, if you want a fun "drive around, steal cars, and shoot people", get Mafia. Though unfortunately, you only get the GTA freedom after winning the game. And the game's pretty damn hardcore.
Halo is fun and not that overrated. NFS Underground is simple, but it's also a lot of fun. Beats most racing games, IMHO. Counter-Strike is even more fun (especially if you're as skilled/lucky/devious at it as I am).
As for Click games, I'd say both ED and The Spirit Engine are the most overrated so far. ED was yet another boring platformer, but with lotsa tiny details. I merely mentioned that it looked "commander keen-ish" (i.e. typical) once on the Blackeye Software postboard and everyone there bashed me back inside and outside the postboards for several months.
TSE was fun at first, then it got really, really repetitive. Yeah, there's cutscenes, multiple characters, details, etc, but I've seen plenty of more fun games that nobody even talked of (e.g. Legend of Baldric).
And Mr. Coffee, there is such a thing about overratedness. Most people won't admit it, but humans are horribly vulnerable to propoganda. If they haven't played a game and everyone says that it's good, they'll just go about trying to "fit in" by saying that it's good till they get the game. Then even when they don't like the game, since they can't back up and say "You know what? This game sucks!" after saying that it looked like fun so long ago. Us game lovers may not do so, but I can name a hundred people who do.
If people weren't so vulnerable to propoganda, Coca Cola and Pepsi wouldn't be even be 1% as big as they are.

There's um... Aladdin for the Genesis. And the WWE games, if you consider those long WWE matches as movies.

What platform was the 'Bladerunner' game on? Its just we're gonna study the book the movie was based on than the actual movie in year 11 Extension English.
I wouldnt mind having the game to, er, 'study.'
'oh yeah? he's thrown a kettle over a pub, what have you done?'
