I have a gravis pad which I use for Archery auto fire in Everquest. Sure beats having to rapidly press my ranged attack button and killing my fingers. I also use it when playing emulated games at times, but the joystick only likes to work four directions and the directional pad doesn't work what so ever. -_-
I was trying to locate a store that sells PS2 controller adapters for the PC so I could use it while playing FF11 on the PC.

keyboard and mouse fulfill all my (FPS) gaming needs. i was thinking of getting a mouse with a few extra buttons but they're too expensive to bother with.
wingman rumble pad since i saw sings in the cinema. i also got 2 free hot dogs which were really great but that's a different story.
i really love that joypad and it sucks to play SNES/NES etc etc with the keyboard imho. but i am a computer player so i love mouse and keyboard. first person shooters on a console are just gay!
I would say; get a ps2 style pad. They are comfy, have loads of buttons and are perfect for emulators.
Most are from £5 to £15
Dont get an adaptor for a psx controller, thats just a waste of money. It's like £20-30 for it when u can just get a perfectly good PC controller! (In fact, most look like ps2 controllers!)
I have a Thrustmaster. Twin-analogs, a digital pad, 4 face buttons, 4 sholder buttons, and 2 more buttons for your middle finger on the back, plus force feedback. Shaped like a PS2 and a GameCube had sex. It's a very nice.
I've got a Logitech WingMan Cordless that features dual analog sticks, a Z axis, 11 buttons (An odd number ), and has Vibration Feedback. It's got a whopping 2.4 GhZ of information transfer for uninterrupted wireless freedom.
I've also got a not-so great Gravis GamePad Pro. It has a weird, uncomfortable shape to it and has no analog sticks. It has 10 buttons, though.

Finishing Up Game Engine
I have a wingman rumblepad (works great for n64 and psx emulation), a thrustmaster pad, a broken 5-year old programable pad, and a big gravis joystick that I don't use.
ive got a sidewinder pad
but i probably shouldnt have got it since they are about £25
although playing snes and megadrive games on emulators are better with it.
i think the only game thats compatible that ive got is gta vice city and mouse+keyboard is better on that anyway.
I dont use my gamepad, except for my own games and for emulators. My pc is only 350Mhz so i cant really play GTA, the only GTAs i can play are 1,2 and the gameboy ones
i use my wireless joystick/gamepad combo( 2 channels, by Medion, pad: 12 buttons + analog stick, joystick: 8 buttons + pov hat + throttle roller) they rule! they are very unrully though, my joystick attemped to rule the gamepad... haha they just randomly switch places in between games... its quite annoying
