Here's something for Christians to ask themselves that I have been thinking about for a long time: Is it wrong to "Put a smile on" just because you can? Jesus wept, didn't he? That's one of my personal favorite verses. Wouldn't it be lieing to do that? Did God's will ever include, "Woe to those with woe?" I mean, God WANTS you to be happy, but not to lie about it. Of course, its not wrong to be happy! It's just whether or not you should act like it. What about all of those inspirational posters saying, "Have a positive attitude!", or, "It takes less muscles to smile than to frown!"? I mean, this might seem like a stupid question, and I understand that, but seriously... just think about it. Is it wrong to "Turn that Frown Upside-Down?"

Dude, there be plenty of such advice out there, but for some reason, nobody even bothers to smile. Likely you'll have someone go about saying "HAHAHA... religious noob thinks he can change the world," then go about their usual grumpy lives.

I think these days, it's cool to be depressed/repressive. I once got misquoted around school as saying, "If I had a gun, I'd shoot everyone around me, then shoot myself" when what I really said was "If I had a gun, I'd kill myself then shoot everyone around me," but I guess people see what they want to see .

But besides the 'coolness' look amongst the angry, pathetic people, I really see no reason to frown.

Yea, I hate when people misintrepret what I say and gossip about it to thier friends... it's REALLY FREAKING ANNOYING.

Before you guys (in other words you, the reader) reply, try understanding the fact that I am ludicrously emotional and religious... I have the incredible ability to be depressed by almost anything... of course, I don't think its wrong to be happy, that would just be stupid . My question is, Is it right to misrepresent the way you honestly feel? In this particualr post, I'm just going to be throwing out stuff to contradict everything that I see that can be contradicted, I'm not really going to take sides. I'm just looking for an answer Just remember, I'm not asking this as if any of it is actually right, I'm just asking so I can know.

". . .And your eyes must do some raining if you are ever going to grow
But when crying don't help and you can't compose yourself
It is best to compose a poem, an honest longing or simple song of hope.
That is why I'm singing... Baby don't worry cause now I got your back.
And every time you feel like crying, I'm gonna try and make you laugh."

Bright Eyes - Bowl of Oranges

Don't quite know how it's relevant, but I thought of it when I read your post.

Your point is well taken, though you kinda missed the actual point a little bit... its about whether it's right or wrong to hide your actual feelings, and you missed the nail by an inch. That doesn't neccisarily justify disguising it, does it?

I smile all of the time because i'm making the most of my life by not be held back by religious beliefs or morals. I smile because I believe what I want to and do everything my way. I smile because I know i'm free to be myself as much as I possibly can within society. And I laugh in the faces of those who try to change that!

I laugh and smile way more than getting depressed and crying.

i think that everyone can choose how they react to a situation up to a certain point. I choose to not let any crap annoy me.
now if only the jerks and morons in the world wouls stop trying to piss me off it would be so much easier.

look... no one seems to understand what i am saying, so i might just delete this thread... pity that.

Ill probably get rid of this tommorrow unless someone can comprehend what i am asking for.

Im not talking about smiling itself... im talking about the priciple in is it right to smile even though your sad? Is it wrong to frown? Thats basically what i am asking for. Keep in mind, the top of this thread includes: "Here's something for Christians to ask themselves that I have been thinking about for a long time"

That means: I am looking for a Christian response. If you're an atheist, then i dont care if you argue, just try and stick with christian principles

Im asking about hiding the way you feel, not if what you feel is wrong

Ok, that SHOULD have set everything off a little better, but if not, this thread will go *poof*.

SAVE ME JEBUS!!!!!!!!

Show me the power child,
I'd like to say,
That I'm down on my knees today,
Gives me the butterflies,
Gives me away,
'Til I'm up on my feet again,
I'm feeling outshined.

I love Jesus. He's allways with me. Even when I take a shower.
That freaks me out.

The content above makes absolutely no sense. But I guess you've already figured that out.

On a related thread: If lying is done for a good reason, with someone's best interests at heart, then it shouldn't be wrong. For example, if you were hiding someone who was going to be killed and you lie to people finding him (and he's innocent, you wouldn't hide any old con) then how can that be wrong?
