Ive dowloaded Camstudio (version 2 I think, I cant seem to find version 1). But the recorder doesnt work, when I try to start it, it restarts the install file. It seems Robdemo has taken the place of camstudio. Cos when I seartch for Camstudio version 1, Im being transferd to a robdemo download (wich cost money, LOTS - macromedia)
So my question is,
-do you get the same problem when starting the recorder from CS 2.
-should I use CS 1
-Can someone send me or upload a version of CS they know works
and btw, Im using XP, if that changes anything

No I don't get the same problem. I'm pretty sure this is because of the installers using the same install program, and one of them would of overwritten your installer's data files. Try deleting all temporary files and see if you can find and delete the robdemo download.
