After this morning's events, I would like to remind some people about good practices with passwords...
1) Don't use the same password for every site. If you, say, signed up to a site which had some unethical people behind it, and you used the same password as another site, then you're in for some fun.
2) Don't use short or dictionary based passwords. If your password was something like "example", then somebody malicious could simply brute force it with a word list and be in your account in under a minute. Almost all passwords are case sensative, take advantage of this! A good password is something like "a95BhSjR6Sn78DyjGH". There are these wonderful things called cookies too, which means you only need to enter it once, and you can remain nice and secure without doing anything. Write down your passwords on a piece of paper next to your computer or something (remember to use a different one for each site), and keep those passwords nice and long too (a five or six character password can be brute forced quite feasably).
3) If you're an admin, you should take these measures even more seriously
well it's hard to keep up with all the new ones that keep appearing
"Say you're hanging from a huge cliff at the top of mt. everest and a guy comes along and says he'll save you, and proceeds to throw religious pamphlets at you while simultaniously giving a sermon." - Dustin G
My password used to be 'andrew' and someone somehow managed to find it out with some super hacking program (probably). Then they flamed pete and did some other stuff. Of course nobody believed it was actually me.
So now ive changed it to 'andypandyisdaman' so nobody will guess it!
oh wait i just told you, ill just change it again....
