people like to slag off geocities but to be honest it isnt so bad
for those with little or no html knowledge its dead easy to actually put (upload) your files. you wont need a ftp program.
and the only problems ive had are that when someone is downloadding a game from a geocities site they need to right click the mouse and choose 'save as'
No, those are ISPs, and how much space they give you. Find your ISP in the list, or visit your ISP's website, and find out how much free space they give you.
FreeWebs is best file store, but NO file DOWNLOADING! (1kbit/s)
Beware, be alert, prepare to defend yourself, or just run for your lives(!), because

Go to http://www.digibase.ca/. They'll give you 1000+ mesgs of webspace if you're using their subdomain, and the FTP service is excellent. The only thing however is that the interface takes a little getting used to.
I'm sure if you ask around, somebody you know has some webspace they'd be willing to share. I'm going thru a friend of mine right now. I get about 100 megs of storage with 2 gigs a month of bandwidth and I'm not paying a dime.
