Whatever happened to the movie they were supposed to be making? I'm sure if they ever get round to it it will be all bastardised and Americanised and otherbadthingsised.
The movie, which is coming out next year is being directed by Hammer and Tongs, a duo that had only previously worked on commercials and music videos. It is affliated with Spyglass Pictures and *shudder* Disney. The evidence seems to verify your apocalyptic prophesy, AsparagusTrevor.

One redeeming factor of the movie is the spot-on casting of Arthur Dent. Fans of 'The Office' will know Martin Freeman as Tim, possibly delivering one of the most realistic performances I have ever seen.
Also of note wasd the brilliant BBC tv series (Zaphod's crappy second head aside). This was my introduction to the series, and is brilliantly realised.
I didn't much like the TV version myself - everything seems to move too slowly in it. And Zaphod's second head is a bit laughable = The books are classic, though. As for the film, that was the first I'd heard of it, but I'm not incredibly hopeful.
Vortex, I'm fairly certain that the Hitchhiker's books are not yet public domain, meaning that posting links to the full texts is illegal. Besides, you can get all five books in the trilogy (not a typo) on Amazon for about $13.
