So, I want to know, does anyone do any form of martial arts here? I did Thai Boxing for about 4 years and got to a second grade, and I also taught myself how to use nunchaku. I actually got a video of that.
I also have a Chinese friend who is learning Wu-shu, and he's hard as fuck.
I was wondering if anyone else did any form of martial art and how well you're doing in it so far?
Yeah, it was developed by the Israeli defence force as a 'self defence technique.' They don't even call it a martial art, since it's not really artistic. The point is to get the other guy on the ground as fast as possible then stomp the fuck out of them, unless you're in a position to break something standing up.
I've done a crash course at a place in Sydney, which covered pretty much everything (it's designed to be taught to soldiers quickly), and I don't see any reason to sign up to classes. They're mainly for practice to improve reflexes. If you make any sudden moves around a qualified Practicioner-level Krav expert, you'll probably be unconcious before either of you knows what's happening.
Sounds a bit like the French foreign legion, get the other guy passed out before you are. Can't beat the gurkkhas though, one of my mates's uncles was in the Gurkkhas and the stories of the stuff he did chilled me to my very soul. Lots of wind-pipe sliceage and neck breakage etc...
I actually have a story of when it came in handy one day;
I've had some guy try to mug me before. Yeah, I was drunk, and I'd wandered off in the wrong direction from where I wanted to go, and I walked past a small passage-way, and this big fat black dude grabbed me from behind, so I threw him over my shoulder to the floor and he got up and I kicked him in the gut a few times and punched him in the head as he fell to the floor and he grabbed onto me and dragged me down. My hand was on the floor and I elbowed him, when he decided he'd lost and stomped on my hand, fucking it up for a few days. But he didn't get anything from me at all, and he ended up running away from me, so at least I can tell people that. I'm not even sure why he tried it on me, I'm like 5' 11" and 13 stone, he must've been feeling lucky or been on crack or something.
why did you stop thai boxing, its the greatest thing ever. dissapointing mate.
mixed martial arts is the way of the future, no single fighting style can stand up to mma, as seen in the ufc. the karate guy might beat judu and kung fu but he's got no wrestling skills so he gets owned by someone who knows takedowns and submissions.
99% of the people you fight on the street have no idea how to fight tho so what you learn in thai boxing is more than you'll ever need to know. unless you want to fight professionaly of course.
My brother did some Boxing, Jujitsu, Greco Roman wrestling, Kempo a bit of Judo and now he just does some mixed martial arts that hes mate is teaching him.
I was going to start Kempo and some Jujitsu but the local one closed down, and i just lost interest .
And then you went into fat flobber dancing? Like your avator says.
I tried to make my own fighting style but I keep using things is styles that already exist by accident. It's difficult for me to create an originial style. Like, blocking and stuff, it's hard to think of a new original and better way to do it.
o well, I guess I will stick to existing styles that are known to work instead of making up my own that may fail when it really matters.

I were on kick-boxing for half a year... but then I had to concentrate on school... I kind'a like Street Fighting more, then the martial arts... P.S. Trev, would you answer my mail?
I dont do any martial arts. The only move i know is "Bop on the yead" . I'm a big bugger (about 6'4" now) and got clocked lifing at least 350 pounds, i've got huge shovel hands like George Foreman .
My size got me into trouble at school, if anyone smaller than me started on me, i'd get into trouble for hitting back (Its not fair blah blah). I took about 5 puches off one geezer, hit him back and he went down in one and i got in trouble!!
Isn't 'Martial Arse' where you make up some intimidating moves that make you look stupid? Mm.
I've never had any interest in learning one. I'm sure people could just snap me in half anyway if they tried... I think I'd be better off with yoga. Bend back and avoid punches/bullets/eggs. That's more my thing.
The closest thing I got to martial arts is making homemade nunchaku, they were awesome except you couldn't go hardcore because one of things would fly off.
I've pracitced quite a few martial arts; Jujutsu, Taido, Taejutsu, Kung Fu D'ao.
The one that suited me best however was San Shou (Chinese Kickboxning, a form of Kung Fu) I placed 5th in the Swedish Championship in 2002. I don't practice anything at the moment.
I did Tae Kwon back in the day, though now I mostly practice with my sword, and I guess I have developing my own style, since I stick to traditional Iai-jitsu techniques but I use a straight blade, but I also have my own moves and such, but this is mostly because I can do some things that you cannot normally do if you are using a traditional Katana.
I'm also quite skilled in almost killing myself when I try to use my sword with my left hand, I about cut my leg deep a week ago.
I've done some basic lessons on Wing Chun, mainly concerning palm strikes and redirecting your opponent's attacks. I haven't been properly learning it or anything though, but I am more than considering doing so.
I'd also like to learn how to fight with a staff, preferably one with blades on either end.
