Game, Engine, Extensions
News posted 24th August, 2006 by David Newton (DavidN)
It's just as well Rikus put that post up asking for new admin applications, because more and more of my time is being spent phoning up the incompetent health centre and asking them if they know where my immigration file is yet. But sometimes I get the opportunity to post news.

So, as far as recently released games go, we have Toy Soldiers by Trooper, a defend-yourself-against-huge-hordes-of-monsters type idea.

Comments from the Author: This is a simple little game that can waste a few minutes of your life . It's an overhead-view shoot'em up game with three very basic modes.

Continuing the influx of engines, TMNT Engine V.0.5 by Jason Orme attempts to replicate the old Konami side-scrolling fighting games. And this release of it is a demo version of TMNT (or TMHT as they were called in Britain, for some reason).

Comments from the Author: TMNT Engine is a project that I, Jason Orme, have been working on to recreate Konami's 1989 Classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade game from scratch using ripped graphics and my own coding for a Windows system.

Last but not least, if you'll allow me to use such a ghastly cliche for a moment, Joshtek has been busy porting Xinok's Extensions to MMF2. These include objects that help with extending event logic to include If/Elses and Whiles, as well as a couple of new data storage and mathematical objects. Thanks also to him for giving me an image to put here.

Uh... Weren't they called Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles here because of fears that the word Ninja was a bit too violent?

Yes, in the UK the name was changed to Hero instead of ninja. Apparently over in the U.S kids were hitting each other and being "Ninjas" so they changed it, hoping it would stop that.

But this however was passed when The Next Mutation came out, all future TMNT products in the UK are now Ninja.

There was something about nunckahu being banned in Britain as well, making a change necessary to one of the films.

Posted by Jason Orme 24th August, 2006

I believe that was a Bruce Lee movie..

The intro however for the turtles cartoon was different to the U.S one, apart from saying Hero instead of Ninja, the scene where Mikie is spinning his chucks knocking grenades and such away was cut.

Didn't they replace mikey's nunchaku with a grappeling hook or something queer like that?

Posted by Del Duio 25th August, 2006

You're right, Radix. Once TMNT inspired many little kids to actually attack each other or something, so they got rid of the nunchucks and gave him a turtle shell-shaped grappling hook. It was awful.. And they almost never used their weapons anymore from then on in general.

Posted by Jason Orme 25th August, 2006

No, thats not true at all.

He has never had a grappling hook in the UK.

Never heard of this before, must be a rumour.

Posted by Jason Orme 25th August, 2006

Just searched everywhere and the only place I found anything about it is on wikipedia.

"The policies also had other effects, such as removing Michelangelo's nunchaku (which were at the time banned from appearing in even 18-rated movies) and generally toning down the usage of all the turtles' weapons. After many seasons of never using his nunchaku, they eventually disappeared entirely, replaced by a turtle shell shaped grappling hook called the "Turtle Line"."

From what I have read, it wasnt edited out, but was just changed later on, with both US and UK. But not animation was altered.

lol this is getting serious! I say they make a TMNT VS BMM movie

Posted by Knudde (Shab) 25th August, 2006

I have high hopes for the new movie; as it's based off the kick ass graphic novels; not the TV show or the later comics.

Them turtles used to be WAY violent.

Posted by Jason Orme 25th August, 2006

Indeed, the comics were how they were originally intended, dark.

Just got the new Issue of TMNT, nice to see a footsoldier impaled on a katana.

Posted by Knudde (Shab) 25th August, 2006

Are the foot humans or robots in the newer comics?

Posted by Jason Orme 25th August, 2006

Humans.

Although I will admit, I do prefer them as robots.
There is just somthing cool about robot ninjas.

Posted by Ski 25th August, 2006

lol

Posted by Radix 26th August, 2006

What I heard was that the grappling hook originally replaced his weapons on the toys in the UK.

Posted by Jason Orme 26th August, 2006

Nah, I've got the original toys, he has his original weapon.

I beileve the packaging on the turtles in the UK still said "Ninja" too, not sure though.

Posted by Ski 26th August, 2006

Hmmm someone linked me to a youtube video of these guys playing with the toys the other week. They have loads and loads of turtle toys

Posted by Jason Orme 26th August, 2006

I have a few boxes of them, along with Street Sharks, Monsters In My Pocket, Boglins and an even bigger box of Marvel figures.

I'm just a big kid.

Posted by Ski 26th August, 2006

lol omg dont get me started on Boglins!!!

I remember being 5 in Devon, on holiday. My brothers and I saw an advert for boglins on tv and got all excited. I remember the big puppet ones came in card-boxes that were made to look like little barred cages. They also came in a freaky fish form later on Monsters in my Pocket were also cool.

Street sharks aren't that old, why do you have them?

Posted by Jason Orme 26th August, 2006

Street Sharks are 13 years old.

As for boglins, yeah, I have the puppet ones, you could move their mouths with your hand and they have a switch inside to move their eyes side to side.

Posted by Ski 26th August, 2006

Lol ok ok! Yeah and the boglins eyes glow and that switch is delicate plastic

Posted by David Newton (DavidN) 26th August, 2006

I think I've got a yoghurt tub full of Boglins somewhere in the cupboard.
