Stepping Down As Admin
News posted 2nd November, 2008 by The Chris Street
Well... not really sure what to say to be honest... I guess I'll just type the first things that come to my head and hope they make sense.

Having left a message in the admin forums, I've now decided to end my time here as an administrator at The Daily Click. Having been here for six years (which is a really long time) I feel that I'm not really as dedicated or motivated as I used to be, and that the quality of my administrating has deteriorated - partly due to the lack of this motivation, and partly to do with personal issues and concerns.

It isn't fair on anyone here that I'm not doing the job to the best of my ability and I admit to slackening my work over the last few months and the quality of the site lessens when this happens.

So... I'm stepping down as an admin. You probably won't see me around as much as you used to, and as for my games, well... I'm undecided at this point in time. Part of me wants to wipe the slate clean (there are too many blemishes on it) and leave for a while, yet part of me feels there is a lot of work that would be unnecessarily sacrificed. Basically, I'm undecided as to whether or not I want to continue game-making.

Over the six years I've been here I've seen people come and go; they move on with their lives and I feel now is the time for me to do the same. It's been quite a bumpy ride and I'm going to miss the job but I do feel it's for the best.

I also want to apologise to anyone who I might have wound up by possibly questionable admin decisions. I know I've probably been the most controversial admin ever but deep down I always felt I did what was right at the time.

Anyway, I guess that's it. Thanks for the ride, it's been one heck of a rollercoaster and I want to wish everyone the best of luck in what they decide to do in their lives. So... that's it really. Goodbye everyone, it's been fun :)

-Chris

Though I'm sad to hear that you're leaving, I'm glad to know that you know what you wish to do with you life.
I doubt that completely leaving this community would be the wisest of choices, but it is your life, of course. I just hope that everything goes well for you and then good luck comes to you when you need it.
Thanks for being such a good admin over your time here, and though I hope you continue game-making here, I'll understand it if you don't.

Don't forget us Chris.
I hope you check up on TDC every now and then when you get some free time.

Posted by Silveraura 2nd November, 2008

Controversial yes, fun to mess around with, absolutely. We'll miss you.

Posted by MitchHM 2nd November, 2008

Don't give up on your games man. Just don't promise us anything! If you promise certain progress it's bound to start feeling like an obligation. And that's bad. Just do a little whenever you feel like it. Even if it's once a month, making a level overnight. I just can't believe, having played your previous games, you don't enjoy it. I think it's the promise and anticipation that's ruining it for you. I could be wrong though. Thanks anyway for everyting!

You helped me so much when I was a newbie, and I really appreciate it. Sorry to see you leave, but I understand why you are doing so.

Hope you still decide to stay around and visit us, and thanks for everything you've done in the last six years.

"Over the six years I've been here I've seen people come and go; they move on with their lives and I feel now is the time for me to do the same."

Making games isn't my life, it's just a hobby at the moment, which is part of my life.

Posted by Yami 2nd November, 2008

Wish you the best and I hope that you do not stop working on games completely.

Posted by Codemonkey 2nd November, 2008

Didn't you decide to leave once before? Either way, you're a good guy to have around. If you're decide you're going to quit game-making, at least finish Mr. Stumps Dentures 2 first! Please!

*Jon Lambert secretly steps in as Chris Street's replacement...*

Wow... That's a change, it's weird when the people you expect to "always be here" actually leave.

You've been here for the entire time I have (and more) and the whole time I always respected you, hope you have a good life

Posted by OMC 2nd November, 2008

;____; I'm really depressed now.

Posted by Matt Boothman 2nd November, 2008

The end of an era!

Can't say I always agreed with your decisions, but then again someone had to make them. On the whole an excellent admin and an asset to the community.

Come back every now and then Circ.

It's sad to see such a colorful part of TDC vanish, but we all respect your decision and wish you the best of luck! Be sure to come and visit, and don't you DARE remove your games! Cheers! :.)

Posted by OMC 3rd November, 2008

I remember new years eve 1999 too...

But six years on a website is ridiculously long.

Posted by Codemonster 3rd November, 2008

And Team Ultimate X comes to the final chapter

kthxbye

Posted by Windybeard Games 3rd November, 2008

Cya Chris. Wish you the best of luck in life.

Posted by Knudde (Shab) 3rd November, 2008

6 years IS a long time. It's longer than 90% of people's relationships. It's longer than a game console generation. It's longer than a lot of you (me included) have been in this community.

On another note, I remember what I was doing on New Years eve 1999. I was playing Mechwarrior 3, hoping that my computer wouldn't crash as the 2k fix would only work if my computer was on at the time it switched. It was a wierd, off brand motherboard.

There goes one great Denture Disciple

Posted by markno2 4th November, 2008

Noooooooooooooooooooo, don't go. ;---;

Posted by alastair john jack 4th November, 2008

That's probably another reason not everyone needs to make epic games, they'll leave the community before its done.

Posted by AndyUK 4th November, 2008

well if it's so epic it takes more than 6 years it raises the chances a bit.

Posted by ..:.Phox.:.. 5th November, 2008

good luck chris...

Always come back or we'll miss you too much...

Posted by Hayo 6th November, 2008

What? I'll be the only old fart left here if it goes on like this.

Posted by AS Filipowski 6th November, 2008

Good luck in the future. Let us remember the past and keep it close to our hearts.

I haven't been around for ages, but I remember when you were kind enough to help me with some MIDIs for a game that ended up getting abandoned. I'm talking years ago. I always felt guilty that I didn't put the effort into finishing it, when you put the effort into making the music for it without a second glance. A lot of people seem to have treated you as a target over the years, but you stomped all over their words and proved yourself a worthy contender in the sea of Klik creators. You've carved out a little niche in this community that can't be filled by just anyone, I doubt there's many people here that don't know your name and what you do. You've always been helpful, respectful to new members (that deserved it), and fairly even-handed as someone in a position of power. I have a lot of respect for you as a fellow user of Clickteam's products and as a person. All I can say is that the community will miss you and your contributions... best of luck moving on and doing whatever it is you want to do.

I haven't been here for a while, and I saw this, and I thought WTF?! Thanks for your time here, Sir Street. Thank-you for all you've done for the community.

Posted by OMC 7th November, 2008

Hayo, you aren't the only old fart left.

Posted by nim 8th November, 2008

I'm an old fart too. Older and fartier than Hayo, even.

Posted by Jake G 5th December, 2008

I'm back, huh, what did I miss...?
OH NO!
Goodluck out there Circy!!!
