That's it, this'll be the last teaser before release. Otherwise you've seen everything by the time I release the game.
Area 3
This screenshot shows Area 3, and its common two enemy types. You'll be working through these for a moment before reaching the final Boss enemy. The first half is really more a 'take it easy, score some points and choose your weapon' phase. The equipped weapon can affect your approach to the boss, and its difficulty somewhat. You'll see why when you get to play it. Even the Standard Gun can be useful there. It's possible to get weapon pickups during the boss fight, but for better efficiency it's good to have the weapon of choice equipped right from the start.
Ahh, right, I haven't mentioned how the arsenal works. You can have one weapon equipped. Enemies will occasionally, sometimes quite frequently, drop other weapons as pickups. Picking up a weapon discards the old and equips the newly picked up weapon. In earlier versions of the game you lost one full level of weapon strength when you switched weapon, but this was eventually changed, for a variety of reasons. One being that it was a pretty big penalty for accidentally picking a different weapon, for instance when killing an enemy at close range. The game is also short enough that it's best to just leave the choice of weapon up to the player. I doubt anyone is going to play through Marathon Mode with only one weapon equipped. Things get hairy at times and some weapons work better in specific Areas.
Rockets
The equipped weapon here is Rockets, at maxed out level (5). Rockets is the no-heat weapon I mentioned last time. It DOES produce heat, but it dissipates before firing again, so it has no time to build up. The rockets also have the highest damage value out of all weapons (reduced in this screenshot because I'm going through a 3rd playthrough in Marathon Mode. It's one of the penalties, though I'm still considering a change to that). However, the fire rate is quite terrible for a game like this. It's hard to catch quick enemies, and the rockets spread out enough to make shooting some targests difficult, like the cruisers in Area 2, for instance. Still, if handled well, it can be a powerful weapon against many targets, and you can always spam away those rockets without having to worry about overheating.
