In the last devlog entry I mentioned that my plan is to focus on improving the map editor and map format, with the main idea being customizable tilesets 'n stuff, but after pondering over it for an evening, I came to conclusion that it's not worth the trouble at this point. There likely wouldn't be enough people wanting to take advantage of the features anyways. Plus there's much more stuff people would want to customize as well, such as ambient sounds, trees, weather/sky effects, etc. Adding customization for all that would just be a ton of work, some maybe even hard to implement, and these just don't seem important for the time being.
Instead I'll just improve what is already there, so that I can get on with the other stuff sooner, such as online multiplayer.
Also, the game hasn't been in complete standstill since first release. The current version is 0.42 and is currently being tested. If nothing critical surfaces, I'll upload it in the downloads section soon.
The main features added since v0.40 are:
-Two gameplay affecting bugs fixed (crash, exploit)
-Failsafe support added for graphics cards with no support for pixel shader 2.0. In previous release the players were both red if the shaders failed to provide the chosen player colours. Now player 1 is red by default, and player 2 is green, even if the shaders aren't working.
-New unlockable feature for Artillery: Spotting Round. Free to use once per turn, to help aim Mortar and Artillery Shells.
-New victory condition: Last Man Standing. Duke it out with what resources you start with until a player has lost all of their units.
I'll post a devlog when a new version is available.
