Anyone who played the tech demo from a long time ago might remember the Tripods. They were just rough proof of concept enemies back then, now they're fully animated and implemented.
Tripods exist in the Present Time, striding right over piles of rubble. Constantly sweeping their grounds with searchlights, they'll pursue you from offscreen and shoot extremely long distance death rays at you if you get too close to them, and are completely invulnerable to your attacks. To get past them, you need to move faster than their beam can pivot; not hard, as they are also extremely slow- but the Present Time is full of effects that can speed up time dramatically, making them hard to escape.
