Project Overview
I'd like to know what features you all would want in a graphics suite.
Not every feature will get in, so try to stick to the ones you would use the most.

Your Feedback is appreciated.
Thanks Guys n' Gals!

Dotting the "eye"
Posted 11th May 10, by MBK 2 Comments
Connect the dots drawing line problem has been solved!

Now the line looks toward the earliest created dot, meaning that you do not have to wait for the line to be complete before continuing to draw.

There is still a minor problem with this method however. The line will continue to draw continuously through all the dots, meaning that even though you stop drawing dots (end the current line) and start to draw more dots (begin the next line), it will not currently differentiate between lines, consequently it will draw a line from the end of the one to the beginning of the other.

I have to figure out a way to tell the line to stop once the pen is lifted so to speak.
Currently it's as if you were drawing with a pen and made a line, then lift the pen and begin to draw another line elsewhere but the first line continues to magically spread ink to the second line connecting the two.

If anyone has a good idea how to tackle this, please let me know.
Connect the Dots!! Lah-La La-La!!!!

I've got an interesting way of making a smooth line figured out. It can be done in TGF1 with no extensions, so it'll be nice for use in MMF2 for Flash and Java. (I think some of the drawing extensions don't work in those)

Basically I create dots and then have a slow moving paster object draw the line along the dots. It works fairly well but there are a few quirks and bugs to work out. I still need to allow for continuous spontaneous line creation while you are still drawing the dots.

If anyone is interested in helping solve the problem (mentioned in Klik-coding help section), and needs a file for reference, I can upload it if it's really needed.

There's not much to it though, just paste dots, set a second active to look at the dots, and currently it looks at the last created dot. That's an issue I need worked out so it will follow with the line while you draw the dots instead of drawing dots, then waiting for the line, then drawing the dots again.
Not Competing with Professional Graphics Suites

I might be able to make a form of layers in TGF1 by using alterable values, but I'd probably need to use pictures instead of actives if it's even possible, and then set the visible transparency of the pictures based on the values, which means starting it all again from scratch.

I'd probably need to build a grid system or level editor, which I still have never done, soooo ... don't expect to see the layer feature anytime soon. It may show up in a later incarnation of the project or in a completely new graphics editor later on once I've garnered more experience. This is afterall my first graphics program so it should be as simple as possible while still being useful and/or different and at the very least a fun, interesting way of doing things. So expect a graphics program of a different style than you are used to seeing, don't expect all the best features of every professional program suite of computer art tools out there, because it's just not going to happen in this project.

Having said that, Layers may actually be easy in MMF2, as I'm fairly sure they already exist there and all I would need to do is change the layer that the lines are pasted onto. We'll see once I get that far. Currently I'm trying to add in everything that can be done in TGF1 first, then port it over into MMF2 and do everything that I can there.
Then when and IF I ever actually get that far before this thing gets abandoned, I'll probably realise that TGF1 sucks, MMF2 sucks and so I'll go spend more time on GameMaker and probably realise it sucks, then by that time maybe Ashley will put in a decent graphics and animations editor user interface so that I can actually use Construct! .. LOL.
Honestly, that horrible editor is the only thing that keeps me from using Construct even though I have MMF2 Dev.

Glow is something I might be able to do, but I won't do til later.
Blur might not ever go in simply because I'd never use it.
Flipping is not necessary, but it'll probably go in the MMF2 version.
Copy/Paste I'd like to put in at some point.
A basic Save feature should be put in.

I'm currently hung up on getting lines smooth.
Currently if you move the mouse too quickly, it leaves a dotted line.
I truly thought this would be easy to solve, and it is in MMF2 (at least with extensions), but I'm stubborn and want to at least see a smooth line in TGF1 before I move the project into MMF2. I know I'm insane and yet I continue to be, does that make me crazy too?
