Project Overview
Preview Core of Innocence is a good old fashioned side-scrolling platformer game, playing in a similar vein to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Super Metroid. It has been in production for almost five years now, this being the fifth iteration over a ten year span of various attempts, learning, building, and improving upon the original concepts. Once complete, the game will be free for all to play, with the possibly of expanding later down the road.

Greetings Everyone!

I'm happy to announce the release of Pudding Hat Games' flagship title, Core of Innocence! It's an adventure platform game aimed at more mature audiences offering around 5-10 hours of gameplay. There are over 250 pieces of equipment to collect, eight massive areas to explore, and tons of secrets to find as you lead our heroine Lila in her quest to save her world!

The game is free to everyone, with NO DRM! - so if you enjoy a good adventure platformer with a healthy dose of fan-service... Check it out!
Core of Innocence release date set!

December 7th. 8pm CST. That’s it folks. The release date and time for Core of Innocence! We even added a snazzy counter at the top of our page to count it down as we bring this thing to a close!

It’s very exciting times in the weeks to come for us, and since its been quite the ride we are thinking of hosting some form of release party, which if technology/internet allows we will be streaming the festivities live for anyone interested to come celebrate with us. I took the night off my real (and far less fun) job and everything, as I plan on celebrating hard.

If you haven’t already, follow us on Facebook to help show your support!

Closed Beta 5 released!
Posted 9th Oct 13, by Chaos680 Post A Comment
Hey everyone! I know I've been pretty quiet on here lately but I try to only post when I have big news!

I'm happy to say that this morning I have released what is hopefully to be the FINAL BETA version for Core of Innocence! My bug/change tracking list is well over three hundred things now! I know that sounds like I was fixing a buggy mess of a game, but its actually not the case - most of those in that list are simple typos, to suggestions on how to better balance the game out.

SO. That being said... providing no major game breaking bugs show up in this last build, my plan for the next few weeks is as follows: Over the next week I will be preparing a 'Press Build' and getting my press kit ready to go, while fixing any final bugs that are reported.

Then, over the following few weeks we will get the artwork for the ending credits finally added to the game. Its coming along fantastically but I've sort of been keeping it secret as each piece is finished so there is something new for everyone on the actual game release. Lastly, any final polish and graphical edits will be added and we should be ready for launch!

Any finally, our release plan is to keep the game free with no DRM, as promised, but we are currently setting up a 'pay what you want' option on our site which will accept Paypal and Google wallet transactions. So then if people really enjoy the game experience we are offering, they can help contribute so we can keep making more games! And this time since I know what I'm doing... it shouldn't take 12 damn years. Ha!
It's about time!

I have everything added into the game. All the treasures, monsters, quests, bosses, everything. It’s all in there. I have a three day weekend starting tomorrow where I will go through my bug list, and get as much cleaned up as possible. I also need to balance the enemies a litttttle bit because the enemies in the second ‘area’ are one-shotting me, which isn’t much fun. My goal is to have the beta out to my test group and the Kickstarter Backers Tuesday morning, Wednesday at the latest.

There are some final graphics that are waiting to be completed, mostly for the ending sequences, but the game itself otherwise plays through to ‘completion’. So in the beta you will see some ‘placeholder’ images while we finish up that artwork.

I’m not gonna lie, right now the game is quite difficult. On my first play-through so far, knowing where everything is ahead of time, I’m at about 15-18 hours (not completionist-ing it). A good deal of that was backtracking through levels to get items which required new ‘abilities’ to access certain areas, so I’m debating adding ‘key rooms’ similar to Castlevania: Symphony, to act as a mid stage ‘hub’ so to speak for each of the areas to at least cut down on travel time. I want the game to definitely feel adventure’y’ but not tedious from having to return to old locations time and time again.

During the duration of beta (probably a month or so depending on any further feedback) I will continue refining and balancing the game based on any feedback I get, shooting for a final release to the public in early October.
