Project Overview
Preview This is the continuing evolution of the Create-Destroy Platformer I made during this year's ClickJam. The demo had been downloaded over 50 times in less than a month, so I figured there was enough interest in it to facilitate me starting a project page for it and documenting any change and growth it experiences. So here we go. The External URL will always be the most recent build of the project.

Still on my "Someday" list...

I haven't totally given up on finishing this game at some point. There are simply other projects that have taken the fore at the moment (none of which are related to making other video game projects, as far as I can tell). Simply other-life stuff.

Meanwhile, I saw another article to point me in the direction of a female hero for this story, and being able to do it grandly.

I will come back to this soon, honest.
CDP: The Smurfette Principle

This is why - in this project and any others I actually complete - I will have demonstrably female characters who are well-written and believable, and who accomplish heroic things.

I hope to find an artist who can make this a reality.
CDP: storage containers

Just yesterday, my wife and I were stuck at an intersection, waiting for a train to pass. As I watched the train trundling by, I realized that the long storage containers were full of stuff...Stuff quite possibly valuable to SCRAPPERS.

So I will be developing some levels with storage containers in them, perhaps large shipyards or warehouses full of them. These will be thinner-walled areas than the usual grid-sized blocks currently used to build levels, likely with hatches the player can blow open with their plasma gun.

Technically, the container walls will be Backdrop objects, the background of the container is another Backdrop Object, and the hatches will be Active Objects so the player can properly interact with them.

Nothing to show for it yet, but I reckon I'm due for a new build of the game with the updated graphics and a few other ideas implemented. I scribbled down notes for this yesterday while in the car and have been kinda sitting on them since. We'll see if I can fit time in my schedule for some tinkering.

Hope everyone is enjoying the incoming winter weather, regardless of the hemisphere you happen to inhabit.
CDP: Original Tileset 1
Posted 28th Nov 12, by s-m-r Post A Comment
In my quest to put together original artwork for this game, I composed a tileset that just might resemble an old factory of some sort.

I also rid myself of the "stony pebble" backdrop, which was also some of DavidN's work for the engine. I didn't have time to come up with a repeating backgrop of the same seamless quality, so I sort of just scribbled over it with a complimentary brown colour for testing.

Are you a pixel artist who wants to come up with distinctive backgrounds for this game? Maybe you want to take this opportunity to create robots, or hazards, mechanical parts, or even the main character: an urban scrapper-scavenger? If you have a pessimistic vision of what the world will look like in maybe the year 2150-ish, then you ought to send me a message. I'm interested in seeing what others might think of as interesting locales to explore (not to mention interested in saving myself some time while not skimping on the game's visuals).

This also happens to mark my arbitrary 20% complete devlog post...Whee!
