www.paul-jeffries.com and Hertic Emu Studios presents...
ZOOM MAN
Hello all. Most of you probably don't remember me, and those that do will probably be shocked by what I am about to show you. 'Thick black pixel outlines, Paul?' they will say, 'only ONE move?'. Yes, it's true, I have turned into everything I hate the most - Circy (only joking Circy, you lovable rogue, you).
But never fear, because this game contains far more originality that the steaming piles of cack Circy makes (only joking Circy, you lovable rogue, you). For, although it is a platform game in the sense that it has platforms, it plays more like a side-scrolling shoot 'em up. Except there's only one bullet, and you're it. In fact, it's possibly a puzzle game. Hmmm...
As Zoom Man, you have the unique ability to 'zoom'; to fly short distances in a straight line, and to smash apart anything you hit. However, after the zoom is finished, you will drop back to earth. The aim of Zoom Man, then, is to pick points that allow you to move from place to place, destroy obstacles and baddies, pick up powerups, line up combos etc, while allowing you to drop back down to a safe point afterwards, ready for the next zoom.
Zoom Man is invulnerable to damage; enemy attacks will only knock him back, but like all good superheroes he has one weakness: the edge of the screen. Using his powers floods his body with so much energy that it puts great strain on his heart, and he must keep moving to stop it from exploding.
Can Zoom Man use his powers to save the world from being taken over by an army of Cyborg Ninjas? Can he keep his real identity secret? Can he do it all with enough flair to ensure the success of his comic books?
GAME FEATURES:
- Never before seen gameplay system that really is genre-defying. Well, I can't make up my mind which one it is, at least.
- Cat-dazzling pre-rendered cell-shaded graphics for a real comic book feel.
- Parralaxing, animated backgrounds - planes fly by, cars zip past and the ocean ripples behind our hero.
- Massive bosses - battle the leaders of the robot army. Has Zoom Man met his match?
- Non-intrusive storytelling: plot events happen as you play, never disrupting the action for a second.
- Self-adjusting difficulty - extra lives for the inept, so even the most retarded will never be really stuck. They'll still be retarded, though. I can't really help that.
- Hoardes of different baddies to bash. Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? No! They have nightmares about Zoom Man smashing them to pieces.
- Active platforms that make your environment come to life - boats bob, buildings blow up and cars carry you into battle.
- Performance rating system lets you know just how rubbish you are.
- FMV movies (possibly - depends if I can compress them to a suitably tiny size).
This is a summer holiday project of mine, so it should hopefully be finished before I go back to uni at the end of the summer. I'm looking for somebody to help me out by writing some of the music, so if you're talented in that area and are looking for a challenge, let me know. When I get the time I'm going to be adding a Zoom Man microsite to www.paul-jeffries.com, so check there for updates.
As the last shot shows, I take playtesting very seriously and have managed to find a tester of suitable intelligence.
