All right, so I was thinking about how this story thing has been going, and it doesn't see to be going so well. People are either fighting over who's got the better story, making odd irrelevant comments, or just too afraid or turned off to participate. So I've decided that it might work better if I do it this way. Instead of having people submit stories that they are unwilling to budge on, or complaining about other stories, it might be better if we all work on the story together. So I made this:

http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=cG1VR2tIdnlpQmlOaTRaMWV0V1NRREE6MA..

Above is a link to a survey. You can fill out this survey to tell me what you want in the story, as well as a few other aspects of the game. Once I get a sufficient amount of people's submissions, I'll use the most common ideas and have us discuss them. This should theoretically create a story that everyone agrees with, or is at least okay with.

So once you fill out the form, you don't need to post your results here. I'll be able to see them on my Google Docs. I'll open up the Story Discussion thread again once this takes off.

What do you mean by basic plot structure?

Something like
+ You wake up
-meet bad guy
-fight bad guy
-bad guy runs
+get kidnapped
-escape
-confront bad guy
???
Or is it more along the lines of
lvl 1- stop earthquake
lvl 2- go to evil guys lair
lvl 3- fight robot army
lvl 4- fight evil guy

Yes these are short examples, but do you see what I mean?

Are you asking for an artistic storyline or a level by level summary?

And how long do you want it? I mean, the average thing I pop out stretches far longer than my previous entries here. Depending on detail, it could go on for a while.

Would it just be easier if I made an outline of what I already did?

I think that sums up all the questions I have.

I'm thinking use of the classic dramatic structure would work:
Exposition
Rising action
Climax
Falling action
Conclusion (denouement)

On top of that, I'm thinking styling it like a tragedy would also be appropriate, looking back at the olden idea of the story being grim. As a tragedy the player's situation progressively gets worse, until the story traditionally ends on a dark note: main characters being dead or such.

In addition to being a tragedy and using dramatic structure, I propose that the story be split into three or four acts, with the first act setting up where and why the rest of the story takes place; Classic exposition, filling the audience (the player) in on what an everyday person in the fictional setting would know. Regardless of the number of acts, the final act would involve the culmination of the story with triumphing over the villain and ending by showing how the world has changed since the first act.

Tragedy? The idea was to make it serious, not grim. Putting the simplistic "cute" art we talked about with a horror game really can't work. It can be done, but I can't see too much functionality.

Excellent idea for the 5-step albeit a bit basic for a 4-act storyline.

Traditionally, a tragedy is simply where things get worse for the protagonist as the story goes on.

I know what a tragedy is. I just thought that with talk of submitting this to realarcade or a similar group that kind of dark mindset would not fit with their audience. It is a unique approach not often seen at TDC but I'm just not convinced that it would be appreciated elsewhere.

Was there actual talk about submitting this to realarcade or is this one of those pipedreams of yours? Regardless, if you have a better suggestion, then do suggest it.
