Another slow day on The Daily Click, it seems, so here's another Rand-O-Review from yours truly.

"Diamond 2", which as you might imagine is the sequel to Diamond, is a puzzle game that involves controlling a ball as it travels around a board. Now, I can't compare this to the original as I never played it. You can only make the ball move left or right - it moves up or down of its own accord and bounces off surfaces.

Your objective is to manouevre this ball around the board and destroy diamonds which block your way to the exit. However, you can only destroy diamonds of the same colour as your ball, and to change its colour you have to get to certain coloured tiles. Once the ball touches the exit you've won the level, but there are tiles that can destroy the ball if you venture too close to them.

Because of the layout of some of the levels (layered different coloured diamonds), this means gameplay can be very, very repetitive - go to one coloured tile, back to diamonds. Wait while ball bounces back off wall. Hit another diamond. Wait again. Duff it all up by hitting a coloured tile by mistake and have to trek all the way back to the tile you visited before to get your colour back again. Carry on hitting the wall. The slow speed of the ball doesn't really add much excitement to the proceedings, either.

One minor point - no, I feel like moaning, so it's fairly major - I am colourblind, and I'm sure I can't be the only Clicker who is. I found it very difficult to tell the difference between the blue and purple diamonds/balls - wouldn't white have been a better choice? Perhaps it's just me.

It's a shame, because everything else about the game is well done - it's an original concept with well drawn graphics, even if the boards can look a little blank, potentially good gameplay and decent sound effects. The only problem is that it's very dull, and that's bound to put people off. When faced with another screenful of diamonds to demolish, it's tempting to just call it a day...
