The Daily Click ::. Downloads ::. Review Review: Unknown Game 2532
Because Breakout games are easy to make, people new to the Click software will probably try to make one to start off. However, this means that there's a lot of sub-standard breakout games being made. I have to say this isn't an exception, but looks as if it's been worked on well and isn't a bad result. One of the first things you notice are the graphics. They have been very well drawn (I like the bat graphic), and the style is consistent throughout the game. The menu screens are nicely presented. They might seem a little small, but they look nice as they are and I don't see any need for improvement. I didn't find any sound or music in this, so it doesn't receive many points. However, it's only a demo and I'm sure some will be added in the full version. Right, gameplay. On the whole, this is just a normal, bog-standard breakout game. There's one powerup, activated by touching a block, that makes the ball go through the bricks. it could've benefited from some more powerups such as long paddle, 3 balls, instant death, etc. There are Speed Blocks, but I didn't notice the ball speeding up much. Also, it uses the built-in movements. This means the ball can sometimes bounce off randomly, making the player more dependent on luck more than skill. Also, you can't control where the ball bounces by making it hit different areas of the paddle, meaning you wait ages for it to hit one final block. Also the paddle could be a bit better controlled. Lastability is almost nil, as there's only one level and highscores. However, this is only a demo and 20 levels have been promised. Overall, this is a good breakout game, but doesn't add anything new to the breakout genre. It has pretty graphics, and it doesn't play bad, but it's pretty much average. The full version will hopefully be much better. And there's a typo on the instructions screen.
