The Daily Click ::. Downloads ::. Review Review: Super Extreme Pong
The words "Super", "Extreme" and "Pong" aren't really three words you see together often. In fact, they go together as seamlessly as "golfers" and "fashionable" - i.e. not really very well at all. The game opens with a nice enough logo, and an intro sequence which involves the traditional pong paddles and ball (which then explodes). On getting to the title screen, the first thing I noticed is that there's a commercial version of this available (or at least there will be). It's usually a bad idea to try and sell games unless you've got a lot of experience, but who knows, it might attract a few punters. The second thing I noticed was that the author has messed around with the menu, disabling the F2 key and sending the player to the menu rather than the game start. Nothing too drastic, and in this case it might be excusable - it's not just there for the sake of it. You're given a limited choice of modes and paddles in this version. The objective is, like regular Pong, to punt the ball over to your opponent's side of the screen. This game adds "weapons" to the gameplay, which can be sent towards your enemy using Shift. Each different paddle has a different weapon and also individual attributes - Speed, Control and Attack. But it's still Pong. You can't alter the trajectory of the ball apart from the way in which it happens to hit your irregular-shapen paddle, and it's a slow game even on the EXTREME!!!1 setting. It's certainly presented nicely, apart from the "This screen is not here" frames which look like they were tacked on in a spare half-minute (yellow System font all the way), but the game really needs work to make it less... well, boring. The features promised in the full game might just about make it worthwhile - the link to the webpage is a nice touch.
