The Daily Click ::. Downloads ::. Review Review: Unknown Game 4075
After playing this game too many times to count, I've finally decided to do a reviwe on it. Noir is based off of an anime so I'm told, while I have never seen it, I'm guessing its about this blond girl and her gun. Anyway, on to the game. When the game Starts up, you're greeted by a very slick title screen, complete with a bit of music timing. It's cool, I like it. I don't like the music in the background, but the author told me that it's the intro song from the series so I guess I'll accept it. And onto the Gameplay, which is a mixed bag. The game has 4 different weapons, 2 pistols, throwing knives, and an SMG. The pistol has an upgrade that gives you armor piercing bullets. These don't seem to do any more damage than the normal bullets, but it seems that it allows for the bullets to through multiple enemies. (Shab can you answer this for me?) The silenced pistol sound is pretty crappy, but the rest of the sounds are well fitted. The control scheme takes some getting used to, but after a while it becomes natural. The enemies in this game range from the tragically stupid to the Terminator (The Suits). The standard fare enemy isn't anything spectacular, I mean they do Aim (As in actually point their gun at you), and occasionally one will get smart and duck. I'm also convinced that one enemy ran away to go get his friends because I was swarmed by guards soon after (If this is actually what happened, good job man.) The Suits, are relentless, they fire 3 round bursts, duck behind cover, and know how to kill you quickly. Very good AI design on these little guys. Moving on, you can also hide behind the same objects that your enemies can, if you can figure out what to hide behind, which actually was only a problem when I first started the game. The author states that this game is not made for run and gun, and he's right, effective use of cover is key in this game, especially under sniper fire in the first level. It's also fun to be hiding behind a bench and have the enemies walk by you until you pop up from cover, (Be careful with this, as one of the standard guards quickly shot me in the head while doing this.) and pepper them full of rounds. That headshot comment brings me to my next point about this game, the damage modeling. Gran Tourismo 4 doesn't have it but this game does. You get shot in the head, you die. Get hit in the body 3 times and you die. But for each time you get hit, your characters speed drops, and your jumping is affected. Get hit too many times and you won't be able to dash. Now this damage modeling goes for the AI too, it's fun blasting through the heads of enemies. Now for how violent this game is, the most blood you'll ever see is then you crush a lowly guard in the third level. It seems that blood is used as a marker to see if you've hit someone, which is good, because sometimes the bullets are hard to see. The graphics are ok, but seem inconsistant, the author seems to have a dirty/clean style of art, which honestly doesn't look too bad, but the sewer pipes could be better. The Opening graphic is awesome though. Finally, I'd like to comment on the little touches the author has put in, splashing water, crushing guards, the small puzzles, and the "alpha level" <-- (very strange looking). These are all nice touches and it shows that the author cares. In conclusion, while this game is slightly flawed and only a demo, the work is of high caliber. This is near "classic" quality, with some more polishing it WILL be "classic" quality. It just needs to be easier. Lots easier.
