It does indeed look beautiful
However... (don't hurt me!) ... the grassy tiles look so similar to Bernard and Hank, when I first glanced at the screenshots I thought it was B+H2.

I meant the actual green bits of the grass tiles, the zig-zag pattern is virtually the same

It's about time you got around to making it.
Although I don't think the graphics look like the old fishhead games at all. These are a completely different style and look high contrast.

The only difference I see is that Hayo's graphics/style have come on miles since the first fishhead games, hence being really nice.

It is the old Fishhead style using another technique. Pixel art instead of blurring the heck out of crap gfx. I could not even do it like that anymore, and don't want to. I am happy with these graphics.

They are quite obviously very different. Better, yes but he/you is/are actually capable of much better in my opinion.
This being a good example.

Those are terrible, messy graphics as well. I should not have posted this project.

Stick with those graphics, they're really nice. The high contrast is your thing and looks great, the sprites are also real nice.

"Those are terrible, messy graphics as well. I should not have posted this project."
Wait, what?
is this one of those situations where I'm just on a totally different wavelength to everyone else?
I'm a bit confused. Do you really think that example is terrible? Maybe you're just being too hard on yourself.

First of all it's a matter of taste and there are a lot of wavelengths in taste.
I am not too hard on myself, but I am hard on myself from the past. That example, from february 2005, might be a nicely drawn picture with a lot of details in it, but it lacks good technique (has too many colours, no contrast, too much dithering, no definition of depth) and would not be very effective in a game. What I am doing now is more simple and more direct, shortest way to get the message across. And actually suits a game.

I know it's a matter of taste, I already said that.
I loved the graphics in Santaman and his iced muffins, I guess I was hoping to see something closer to your graphics from Fishhead world tour. Only the pixel art part of it mind you, not all the photoshop filtering.
Well, I'm only basing this on a single screenshot, I'm sure you know whats best for your own game.

You said earlier that the new FH gfx have too much contrast, yet the contrast is the same as Santaman and his iced muffins, which you just used as an example you like? You're making little sense

I think I can see where Andy is coming from, to see graphics that are more "organic" I guess, like in the old screenshot he posted. Though in the old one there's lots of messy noise/dithering, which Hayo addressed nicely with the lovely new clean style. I'd like to see more vegetation in the foreground.
Good luck with this, hopefully you can finish it this time round. :]
