I was thinking of having this Gang War type of game. You get to either start or join these 'gangs'. You have to create a character, which would be built in the next version of the Gang War game, and to use your character, you just log in with the right name & password.
So, you can start your own gang with your game developing group or something. Everyone uses 'conventional weapons' like knives, guns, flamethrowers, etc. No superpowers . The better the relation you have with the creator of the game, the better the weapon you can use .
The game would feature two modes: Siege and Open Battle. Siege games are games where you get to raid another gang's fort, a good way for a strong gang to have a balanced fight with a weaker one. The fort lets you put turrets, traps, etc. Open Battle simply lets you fight in an open area, without the benefit of traps, etc.
And when there's not enough people in a gang on at one time, you can just come to the aid of another gang that's starting a fight.
It's an idea I had from my newbie days, but back then, I never had the technology to do something like this. But now, with all these "smash bros" games being abandoned, I'm sure there's plenty of abandoned sprites you guys have lying around. All I need is a sprite of your character, the name of the gang you're in, the weapons you want to be on your character, the design/background graphics for your fort, and password (later).
Only drawback is that I can't do multiplayer very well, so I'll probably need an assistant on that part or the game strongly risks being vaporware. That and my kliking time is completely focused on that KM compo for now.
Oh, and since this game is still in design phase, maybe you guys could decide whether it's more fun in top-view, side-view, or any other style? I was thinking of a cliche deathmatch platformer style, with a few extra bits like 360 degree bullet movement & particle effects, but it'll require a bit more graphical work than I (and maybe some of you) would like. And I'm not sure if I should use Peblo's 3-axis platform engine either, as it'd bring some trouble converting to multiplayer.

a game like this would probably be better if it had the camera angle used in older rpg games, such as final fantasy, instead of the pure top down view (which i personally think is a terribly ugly camera angle for a game)
Hamish:
Exactly . But I'll be doing all the maintainance and stuff, of course.
Sensation:
Yeah, but that camera angle thing isn't really easy to do. If it was, I think everyone would've done it.

erm, i'm getting the feeling that you think it has to do with something harder than it should be, it's kinda hard to say, because 2d games don't exactly use an actual camera, but what i was trying to get at pertains to the gfx for the game, instead of making them purely top down to make them seem as if they were viewed from an angled camera position
I have been designing a game just like that for a couple of weeks now. I never though of the raiding other territories though. I would be honnored to help in any way nessisary. I am not the best at anything but This sounds freeking sweet
Sensation:
Easier said than done. I was hoping to make this project something where everyone could join in, but most people (especially including myself) aren't good at drawing angled views. Maybe I'll keep it to side view as plenty of people have a side view avatar of themselves.
nuke/mr griffen:
If you've done anything, plans, code, gfx, etc... maybe I could see it? I might be able to tweak some stuff, etc. Though for this idea to really take off, I think we need more support, or at least some ideas for gangs. I want this to be kind of a TDC thing, with real TDC members or at least some fake ones who'd look like they'd be hanging out on TDC. Hmm... gives me an idea.

JP:
Good idea, don't know why I didn't think of it. But the problem would be that I'd need that final touch on my physics engine to make it really good: http://freebor.tripod.com/spark78/pe.zip
I might be able to fix it very soon, though, if those suggestions on the universal platform engine works.
Hmm... and another bonus would be that there's a lot more things to fool around with - swords, shields, catapults (for the cowardly sniper-style guys), bows, arrows, magic, vampires, mythical creatures, etc

Using the 3D axis engine woudn't cause much problems for multiplayer, it's just that in it's current non-fastloop condition it would have too much problems. I can do the multiplayer if someone starts it off (connection settings, host and stuff).

Well, that 3D axis engine still needs a few tweaks. But 3D sounds a bit tough to play with if you're planning to do castles OR shooting, so I'll stick with 2D for now.
As soon as I finally give up on my compo entry, I'll get to work on this game . Or one of my other games.
