Heres a shot for my new top-down shooter, i decided to go serious, ive been doing alot of kirby-style cutey graphics recently and im tired of it! I dont often make Serious games ,and like all of my other creations, this will probably never get finished! (But im gonna try, honest!)
The games hasnt really got much of a story yet, appart from its like jurrasic park?- there will be loadsa dinosaurs hopefully, and of course a tyranosaur and also, a stampede of mammoths on the ice level! but for now there are just moaning triceratops!
"I use paint, it seems better than the MMF editor"
I certainly dont agree there. Probably because i got sick of messing around on paint when i was 9. MMF editor has more functions, im pretty sure.Btw ive just made a typical car chase level with a t-rex, like the scene in jurrasic park.. but the trex looks different!
JP: I wouldn't say GiMP is 'just as good', but I'd say it'll do most of the key things PS will do. I wouldn't like to use GiMP for pixel art though, I'll stick with Graphics Gale. That has the scrolling feature, which makes tile-drawing a doddle!
(note: I'm talking about GiMP for Windows, I've never tried on other O/S's)
EDIT - forgot to say anything about this game, LOL!
Graphics are looking really smooth! I might suggest a bit more detail on the ground though. It looks too plain now. Let's have some small rocks and scuff marks on the path, and flowers, rocks, moss, etc on the grass. That should look great!

The GIMP can be considered the best freeware image editor around. I use it in both Windows and Linux, so...
thanks for that helpful comment dines, i was wondering if the floor looked too plain actually! The graphics you see are actually better than the actual graphics to be totally honest. Thats because theyre a larger resolution? i mean more pixellated? argh watever i always get muddled with that! The triceratops dont walk around btw, the Tyranosaurus does that!
oh wow am i think only one that thinks the screenshot looks great
yeh lets talk about what the topic is actually about instead of what is better for graphics
i say the best is what you are the most fine with
regardless to say that the tgf editor IS indeed crap haha
ever played Jura-War (i hope that was the name of it)? It reminds me a lot of it. anyway looking forward it
I think TGF editor's okay, but its features are limited. I tend to prefer stuff with layers, cos I use them tons when designing tiles. I also find the TGF zoom a bit limited.
about TGF's drawing editor
its fine if you do 16X16 sprites
or something smaller
try to draw a FUCKING LINE IN TGF's editor
you CANT
its not possible
well if you spend 5 minutes setting each pixel you will get a line or you can use the line tool
but really if you try to actually fucking DRAW Something (when i do pixel art i draw stuff and clean it up later) in the tgf editor you cant
you will always get seperated pixels. pixel...3 empty pixels...5 pixels together...empty space again
its awful
there are only 4 zooming levels
crap
you have got a bigger sprite and you are zoomed in and fill in that area ONLY the zoomed in area will get filled but NOT the rest
HOW FUCKING MUCH DOES THAT SUCK
it sucks as much as the whole editor
but whatever
use whatever you are happy with
i am still searching for a nice pixel editor that is like paint (since i use paint for pixel art. its the best out there. i am NO MMF editor fan. i love paint)with onion skinning. HELLO I WANT onion skinning so animaiting will be easier. without that its a pain in the ass. if it was just possible to do pixel art in easytoon but you cant set single pixels in it you have to draw the whole time
