I've asked this before but nobody really helped much - how do you get a torch light effect so that the background looks a paler colour wherever you move etc... - is it possible without an extension?
to start press any key ...... where's the ANY KEY??

You could try the alpha channel object.

The only small problem with the alpha channel object, is it goes extremly slow in MMF after you create like 2 of them, and have them moving around.

Brandon Cassata: Then your computer must be pretty messed up. It shouldn't lag at all if you just don't have them like covering the whole playfield. I have about 30 of them moving around and stuff in SS racing, plus mode7 object which usually causes some lagginessfulnessity, but still no problemo for me o_O

@Moonbird: the simplest way without any extensions I can think of is making a circle with fade (in an active object), and give that a transparency of about 100. But that looks much more ugly.

Or, you can go old school Zelda style, make a black active object as big, maybe a bit bigger than your frame size. Cut out a torch shape in the middle, and have that always over your charcter, facing the same direction.

Wasn't there like some kind of torch example that messed with the OR, AND, and XOR object properties?

@Aggggge: Your game must be at a lower resolution or have a really fast processor, because I could have 20 balloons floating around the screen through the alpha channel, each are around 64x64, and the game loses frame per seconds very fast.

Asparagus Trevor made a really good example with XOR and stuff. Contact Trevor, because the link for it is now down. Here's something else I've found when searching on CT forums:

I haven't downloaded it, but the comments say it's good.
