Hello, my name is Axel, and I hate MSN. It crashes, it randomly signs me off, and it gives me a terrible headache every time I use it. So, I got this weird idea; What if we made an Instant Messenger, exclusively for the Klik Community?
I mean an IM where you don't have to put up with 12-year old girls and idiots, but a small IM where you can just hang out with klikkers! We could make this awesome thing with everything an IM needs; contact lists, large convos, tabs, smileys and other nice stuff. I mean, why not? We could make a small team of coders and artists (apps need graphics to eh?) and do this thing, just for the hell of it.
So, what do you think? Is it worth a shot, or is it just another stupid idea from Mr Axel?

Good idea, actually. Could use a link to the IRC channel in it somewhere, too.
Would be a cool idea - although, I have no problems with MSN personally - so I wouldn't really use a klik IM. However, if say it was an application like for klikers to gather and they can join different rooms and chat in groups, that'd be better imo.
This has been done many times before and suffers from 1 particular issue and that is that it's not compadable with AIM or MSN, so unless everyone jumps on at the same time, they get bored and sign off. We have a little chat here on TDC, but no one ever uses it for the same reason I just said.
Not worth it. Probably the first DirectPlay project I've worked on. Wait till klik chat chans like #k&p and #tdc get more than 20 people at one time again... THEN you discuss it with those chatters. Till then, I really don't think it's worth the effort.
Besides, I think some guys tried something similar with a TDC game thing. They still have a forum for it here and the last post was on 5 Aug.

Yeah, I totally understand that. But the TDC game didn't get stuck because nobody wanted to use it, but because it was never even released I know there is a way to communicate with IRC servers from within klik games, I've seen it in the TDC vitalized chat client, and Seek and Dread online, so that'd be a cool feature.
But what I wanted to do is not just another Moo chat app, but we could form a team, and make something really cool. Something for the whole community. Something special. Well, those interested can meet me on MSN (Irony, irony) under the same adress as in my profile, so we can see what we could do to make this interesting enough for people to bother with.
And if anyone knows how to make IRC chats in MMF, please take contact too
Well the reason TDC game never progressed was because nobody had time to help develop it - maybe we could somehow turn this idea into TDC game? Obviously it wouldn't be a game.. but you know.. Whatever
I dont want to be in the project, but make sure that this is secure from the project members to the users. Dont reinact the Doom3 Leak and have a version that impersinates people!
We've started working on something. I have done a simple conceptual design, and Flava's working on online coding right now. We're gonna make it pretty secure, trust me.
Instead of using AIM or IRC or MSN accounts compatible with it why not make it so that anyone who uses it can use their TDC Logon. It would make it easier to code for as you could link it to the Database for the site as long as one of the really nice admins gave you the address.
EDIT:
The other nice feature would be if you made it open source so that people could modify the app and make new skins and the likes for it but not edit the core of the app.
Making it open source would just make it more vulnerable to haxxors really
But we'll see. The TDC account idea would be pretty cool. I just don't know what sort of database TDC uses, and I only know some PHP and MySQL. Plus, the admins would probably have to give us the password for the database, and I don't think that's really gonna happen.
The source? Well that has to include the password if it's anything like PHP + MySQL. I think. I really don't know. Maybe it can be arranged somehow, but that is not a priority right now. It's not as if I own this site, eh.
If you use the TDC login thing, you would have to hack into TDC to aquire the password and usernames. TDC will not let you do this nor is this safe for the users of TDC for YOU are gaining access to theire passwords. Another reason why DC wont release there Users info.
Why would I want to hang out with klikkers but seriously, MSN is fine on my side. if it crashes for you then get one of those "all in one" things, or one of those web alternatives? I don't see what this will achieve other than what IRC already does.
Great idea I dont really like the idea of connecting it with other chat programs.
Just dont make it as annoying as msn (Blue flashing minimize bars, nudges, winks, sound when message is received, ads)
Reno: The TDC passwords are md5 hashed, I really wouldn't be able to hack anyone's password, just check if they match with another md5 string. But I understand your point. I don't like the fact that LIJI has the md5 of my TDC password either <_<
And again, I am NOT going to hack any databases to achieve this. It's the admins' (Or owners') decision if they want to cooperate with us, but really, I don't care. That is not a priority right now.
I'm actually making a chat program with MooGame, but could use some help. For smileys, we could use Text Blitter, and use some weird characters no one uses for smileys, so it automatically parses the string and replaces the smileys with the weird character no one has, which shows as a smiley.
I know that. But we're probably not going to use TB for smileys, since that would only allow one font and that. But we'll see.
When we've implented the skin code, we're probably gonna make a small skin editor app for it, so you can all make your own skins. But that's when we're done with all the net code and interface and all that
Yep exactly.
With TDC game, so much needed to be done - like graphics, coding, server stuff - and creating a game in a team can be very difficult because some people don't have time to do things that are needed. I think we started off with about 7 people working on the game, which then ended being around 2 or 3 people.
With a KlikIM you only need 2 or 3 people though - graphics are relatively simple to do (plus the fact we're having a skinning option allows users to make their own graphics). And the coding isn't too difficult neither (the most difficult part is the PHP and MooSock bit - which we pretty much have sussed now).
We're not expecting this IM to be popular or anything - we're basically just trying to achieve something and get it released, then see how it goes. We hope to get some kind of media player integrated and some other handy things which MSN doesn't have - so it could kind of be considered as a lot of things in one whole package. We'll see how things go and keep you updated here
who are you Bill Gates???? I dont want annoying little shitty pop-ups telling me my software is out of date and that i have to update or someone will come knocking on my door!!!!!
Hmm... if you guys decide to go on with this, I want something that displays an avatar and lets me group chat. Oh, and it has to be simple, nothing laggy.

I can't test it, so I can't gaurentee it'll work at all. You can run it in MMF2, but to see the events, DCmail me for the password. There are some who I don't want to have the password.
The two included skins are "retro" and "regular" if you put in a non-existant skin you have to put up with the disqusting default gradient skin that I threw in.
Replying to a dead topic has a few down falls. The downfall here is the fact that the idea this post suggested, has already been done. So saying how it would be cool if it was to happen, is pointless seeing as it already has.
