I'm still pro-360
You know if you want some imaginary 'war' to take part in and make yourself look like an 'idiot', feminism or vegetarianism are probably more dependable.
Why are people "choosing sides" with this shit? I'm getting a Wii, simply because it's got the games I want to play. I couldn't care less about which multi-billion-dollar company gets my money.
Wii is the winner of the generation. It's so cheap Nintendo can make a profit on hardware sales, while Microsoft and Sony sell their consoles on loss. Because of its price, many 360 owners also consider buying a Wii for a secondary console.
360 is the best console. Powerful, yet easy to develop for, and has a reasonable price.
PS3 is the technically most powerful console... However, by the time game companies learn developing for the beast, we'd be halfway towards the next generation... However, the PS3 isn't merely a game machine from Sony's Point of View, it's also a way to increase Blu Ray penetration. If the PS3 tips the HD media war in Blu Ray's favor, the extreme loss Sony is forced to sell it at may be worth it.
- Ok, you must admit that was the most creative cussing this site have ever seen -
Wii's controller is original and awesome because it involves the skillz of the wrist, and i have a lot of skill there LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!, and it was high time we had a new controller type! and it's also cheap, so if you just want to play games with your friends before leaving to your soccer match, wii sounds pretty damn good.
But if wii and ps3 costed the same, and games costed the same, i'd get me a ps3 without a doubt. The problem is, ps3 is went crazy, yeah man! look at it, it became crazy and too expencive, with the money a ps3 costs, i can upgrade my computer into something better than a ps3, for real.
I believe the reason the Wii has sold more units is because they released far more units than PS3 did on launch day. I also believe that the nexgenwars.com site is pretty inaccurate so using that to judge which console is winning isn't really a good idea.
Anyway I don't believe in this console war crap - I think if you slag off another console just because your a fan of a competitors console, then you're a nerd
I want to play Zelda and Metroid Prime, which are both Nintendo exclusive. That's one of the main reasons why I'm getting a Wii. I could get an Xbox360 or a PS3; I really have no problem with paying a few hundred euros more, if I'd get more out of it. But why would I care about system specs? It's not as if Twilight Princess will be shit just because of the Wii's slightly inferior technology.
"HOLYSHIT LO-RES, THIS GAEM SUX!!11" <_<
I'm not trying to be a Wii fanboy here, if that's what it looks like. I'm merely opposing the way people judge consoles on basis of system specifications.
I have a 360, and I've pre-ordered a Wii to be delivered to me. I'm not going to shed a bit of interest on PS3 until the price at least halves. £400+ is way too much for any console, regardless of who made it.
Exactly. Notice the other systems that launched at £300+? Folk just don't want to buy a system that price.
No rumble on the PS3 controller? Fuck that. I stopped using my Wavebird because of no rumble. Along with all Sony's other piss ups over the last couple of years;
"4D!"
"It's a super computer!"
"you're getting it cheap!"
"Entitlements" *eww*
"We don't go gimmicks... use PSP as a rear view mirror"
"We will sell out at launch" ... well DUH, I would too if I produced 8 consoles.
"Worldwide launch!"
Plus with all the reviews of the launch titles, Metacritic has none over 90 (360 has 4, Wii has 1), most reviewers saying "Old gameplay". Just makes me not bother with them at all this time.
You can't judge a console on its launch titles, nor on the fact it has no rumble in the controller. It annoys me how people slag off the PS3 for its negative points when there are just as many negative points about the 360 and Wii.
I probably won't be buying either because they are a waste of money (you buy them, then you only play on them for a few months) and there are hundreds of better games for the PC. 360 game prices are ridiculous - anything around £40 for a game is terrible in my opinion. The Wii doesn't have any games that catch my eye - yes Zelda looks good, but it doesn't look like a great game to me. PS3 is just far too expensive.
Just my views anyway - just want to point out that bashing a console is stupid. Sure, give your opinions on a console and give any criticism - but don't make out the whole console is crap just because it doesn't have rumble or because it's too expensive. Every single console is good in its own way, and is suited to different types of people.
When i had my gamecube, whenever i bought a new game, i played on it for a few weeks. By this time i'd have either completed the game and got bored of it, or just got bored of it. The only exceptions i can think to this are football games, Skies of Arcadia, and Tales of Symphonia.
The only reason i'd bother getting a wii at the moment is because
A) it's cheapest
B) Zelda is coming out for it and it looks amazing
I havent bothered looking at the PS3 because of the expensiveness of it, and the fact that Squaresoft are makingn FF games be online now.
As for Microsoft, i've often played a 360 in Game or Gamestation when i was in bury, and from the games i've played, i've found it to have a very unresponsive control (this is down to the game, i know. But it'd put me off playing it)
The only game i've noticed looking good was Oblivion, but that's because I like RPGs
I don't really follow the gaming industry anymore, but until PS3 drops in price, they won't have a chance of competing against Wii or 360 in the everyday-gamer market. Only people who want to look fashionable, or waste about £500 on a PS3 will get it on the launch date.
But, like Flava said, gaming is a waste of money. £200+ for the console, which will drop in price by quite a lot over the next year; £40+ per game; Then of course, people who play online pay an extra £X a month on top of what they've already paid.
If the average gamer gets 15-20 games for their console before they upgrade, that's spending over £1000 (not including any subscriptions for internet)
I could think of better things to spend that money on.

every console has pros and cons
the 360 easy dev kits,
the ps3's power,
the wii's innovative control system, and price
its just a matter of opinion, you can't prove whats better or worse, just get what you want, and everyone will be happy = )
Game Cube is the only TV console Ive ever really really used, so I think It will be the same with the WII. I usually only use my PS2 for dvds...and the ocassional game.
I actually can't stand the 'rumble' on controllers, it feels like it's murdering my wrists. In fact, one of the reasons I bought my third-party PS2 one was because it had a switch on the back to turn the feature off permanently.
I'm not too interested in any of the three new consoles, but the Wii definitely looks the most promising if you ask me.
I can't slag off the PS3 controller? Why the fuck not? I've PLAYED games WITHOUT rumble (wavebird), but even with the benefits of wireless I still went back to the regular controller. I know some games don't use it right, but Zelda, F-Zero, Resident Evil(s), any racing game, Metroid Prime and co would be crippled without rumble. Even MGS has the heart rate/rumble sensor. Sony pissed it up and they're taking the flak for it. That is what happens when companies do something wrong, people complain.
Where did all these PS3=Power beliefs come from? From what devs are saying both 360 and PS3 are parallel in terms of power. A little example (not CPU related though) is the 360 being updated to upscale all previous games to 1080p, where the PS3 is having huge troubles running in the same resolution.
Thing is you make it sound like the Wii and 360 don't have anything wrong with them neither - and you keep using bad language whenever you refer to Sony, which kind of annoys me and I think it's a bit rude.
@Mighty Joe: Agree with you pretty much 100% - the new Zelda is coming out for Gamecube so you don't even need to buy a Wii to play it. So you could just buy it for the GC if you want to play it
I watched videos of people using the controller on Zelda, and it actually looked like it was difficult to use on the game. Although probably you can get used to it after a while, I don't know. I'd prefer to use an ordinary controller though.

If I'm not mistaken, you can use both kinds of controllers, which is great to play the new controller games and the older ones too.
The Wii is fucking shit because it isn't Region Free. Tossers. Once again I'm relegated to waiting months/years for games to come out in Europe.
The 360 is a pile of wank because Microsoft thinks everyone has a wired network and charge you a retarded sum of £60 just for a wireless dongle. Oh whats that? Even the DS has WiFi. No motion controllers? I suddenly feel last gen.
The PS3 is not worth my time, effort or money. Sony have pissed everything up recently, and the massively lacklustre ratings of the launch titles just cements my decision to steer clear from them. "Tired, old gameplay" is all I'm hearing. Oh and " x PS3 game is now coming out on 360 too!" or "x game company have stopped exclusive support for Sony".
Im in the USA, own a Wii, and have already beat zelda.
Yarr; theres definately no going back to a regular gamecube OR ps2 OR ps3 controller after having used this thing. Its downright better.
No its not hard to use, it feels natural after about 10 seconds, and living in the gay ole states means I could care less about whats region coded or not.
^ Yup, that's Wii Play. Pricing is crazy for it too - game and controller for the price of a game? snazzy.
Game shops in Spain? hah. I was going to buy Bomberman DS from one until the price said the € equivalent of £50. I sobbed. Then Paris! Are there any game shops there?
My brother hated Paris. So did one of my best friends. Hmmm I must try it. I remember an Island I went to in greece had like no electronic shops but ones that sold games magazines that were like a year old and they charged the earth for them
you keep using bad language whenever you refer to Sony, which kind of annoys me and I think it's a bit rude.
Sony deserve whatever the fuck they get. Their incredible arrogance towards consumers and developers alike, and their outright lies are what differentiates them from the other two now. The PS3 is probably a great system, if you have a house made of gold and can ignore the ridiculous price, and don't have any eyes and can ignore that it's an abortion of engineering, but the reason a lot of people; myself included of course; aren't even considering it is because Sony execs hate you and want to kill your pets.
...Unless there turns out to be some really easy way of pirating games for it, given all the linux hacking and stuff that's happened already. The idea of them losing money on the console and then not making any back on royalties appeals to me.

No, it's easy except for the damned shield bash (Which isn't a very good move anyways). Fuck aiming with an analog stick, ever again. I swear, it's going to be impossible to go back so Nintendo had better make wii versions of their old games.
The trick to the shield bash is to flick your wrists, like do a little forward rotation, instead of jabbing it forward. I've been killing EVERYTHING with helm splitters.
Generally, the number of consoles sold are affected by:
- How gullible parents are to buy consoles for their kids
- Fanboys (and girls)
- The price of the console
- Launch titles & titles in the works
- The price of a game
- The features that a console has
Sony do have a large fan-base, but the price of the console greatly depreciates the number of potential sales they could have.
And, if im not mistaken, the 360 still requires you to buy the dvd extras just to watch dvds
I think they all have DVD-players. But who doesn't already have some form of DVD player in their house somewhere? Computer, DVD-Player, who doesn't have one of those?
What's funny about this is that the Nintendo Wii have been released about 2 weeks ago, and it's not that far from the Xbox 360 which have been released almost a year ago.
I'm an idiot ?
The Xbox 360 is in the market since xmas 2005, in all territories. Wii is in the market for 2 weeks and only in 2 territories. Is 7 millions such a big difference ? I don't think so.
If nexgenwars.com is a fake or not, I dunno, and I don't give a fuck. I'm gonna buy a wii anyway.
Hah, I was thinking that. 360, been out for a year in every region. Wii? Just 2 weeks in one region. Course the numbers are huge but if the Wii carries on this momentum once it hits Europe, Japan and co. Meh. Could be interesting, I mean the DS has basically ran off into the distance in terms of sales if that can translate to the Wii then who knows how long it will take to play catch up?
Jonny, you should find some information on sales for xbox 360 and wii over the same period of time.
That way you have a fair comparison rather than... well, talking out of your arse.
@Radix - I'm still pro-360

Thats possibly the funniest thing ive heard in weeks, Thank you, you are a magical being!
"There is no basis for comparison."
Well not yet of course,
"Jimmi got my point, plz listen to him."
we all understood your point jonny. It's not a good time to compare, since the ps3 wont sell well due to limited stock, the wii has only just been released and the xbox360 has been out for a few months.
wait until all three systems are more established then compare weekly/monthly sales to see how things are.
k?

If they completely sell out, it means they dont have enough supply to meet demand, whereas if they had a slightly larger supply then demand, theyd have better profit. Basic macroeconomics jazz and stuff.
dont ask me what that means

Fucking hell the Wii is hard to get a hold of for 250$.
Amazon:
"We sold out of our initial supply of the Wii on Sunday morning, November 19, in less than one minute. We expect to receive periodic shipments of the Wii from Nintendo throughout the holidays and we will post availability updates in this section of the product detail page as well as in the customer discussions below."

I've always thought it would be great to have a sword in a game controlled directly by the movement of a controller in your hand. I think the Wii makes this possible, but the executions I have seen so far seem pretty lacklustre. It seems that developers have limited it to giving the controller a flick in a certain direction in order to execute a certain attack manouver.
It would be technically challenging to get the sword to be controlled directly by the position of the controller, and yet keep the animations looking fluid and lifelike. It would also be an interesting challenge getting the AI to plan and execute manouvers on the fly according to the position of the player and how the player's sword is positioned. I think it is definitely possible.

The last fanboy system I owned was a Dreamcast. Then Sega's hardware department died and I realized how stupid console wars are. Not saying that the original XBox wasn't a stupid system with crappy exclusive games, it definitely was. The 360 is much better, though, since more developers are making games for it instead of just Bungie. PS3 is by no means a bad system, but it's WAY too overpriced and given a potential that outstrips its lifetime. Wii is reasonably priced and innovative, but its controller is rather quirky and it's riding on first-party development for the most part.
I actually have no stake in this, though. I'm keeping my PS2 and getting a backlog of PS2 and PSX titles. I'll probably also snatch my friend's GC if he decides to get rid of it. I may never pay for another console unless the PS2 breaks or I get the urge to play Saturn games. Used and reduced-price games cost what games should cost, in my opinion, and I'm not shelling out $30+ for a game unless it's off eBay and hard to find (here's lookin' at you, Symphony of the Night).
