Hey there fellow Clickers! First of all i think we all owe The Daily Click & Click Team a big thank you for holding this compo!
I entered! My first ever click game submission, also my first attempt at a grid based game so it wasn't very good, heh! So? How many people entered? Oh yeah, did everyone else get a message in their TDC mail box? The email I got said I should have one waiting but... empty... =S
Anyone else get one?
Well, I entered and I got a mail from Shab saying he got it. (I missed the part about submitting my ID-number though) I guess now that we are post deadline it should be OK to submit the game as a download right? Can any admin confirm this so I don't go and do something stupid and get myself disqualified?
Oh, thanx to everyone involved for a challenging and fun compo!
Its hard to be religious when certain people are never incinerated by bolts of lightning.
I entered. By ID number what did they mean? I entered a couple minutes before the deadline. I didn't get a confirmation thingeh though. How long did yours take?
Your id number is the thing to get to your profile.
I.E mine would be 2095 as to view my profile it's
http://www.create-games.com/profile.asp?id=2095
you can find it out by clicking your avatar in the left hand side panel, and looking at the address bar, in the My Daily Click section.
To quote Nioreh: Well, I entered and I got a mail from Shab saying he got it. In the rules on the page it never said that you had to submit your id so I didn't. I really hope this doesn't disqualify me because it wasn't even written in the rules!
I'm sure you'll be fine, but still send them the mail to make sure!
I didn't hear anyhting for 24 hours so I mailed them again inquiring about it and it took less than an hour for a responce... maybe only a few minutes... cannot rmember... :S
I know, I read the rules like a hundred times, and it never said anything about it. I've been out all day today, and now when I got home I get to know that I miss 5 points for not submitting correctly. It isn't really fair to set rules like that on the last day.
Its hard to be religious when certain people are never incinerated by bolts of lightning.
They set the rules I guess. I'm glad I was accepted even though I didn't include my ID. Complaining is not always a bad thing btw. If I disagree I think it is a good thing I get to say so. Well. Good luck to all who entered, and let's hope these 5 points don't lose someone a prize.
Its hard to be religious when certain people are never incinerated by bolts of lightning.
I'm not taking points off. For those who followed the submittal rules (They were on the frontpage) they get an EXTRA 5 points. So I'm not docking you guys anything.
The only entry I got that I have NO CLUE who it's from is from Dominik Szewczyk, whoever that is.
Slink, yeah I got yours. Thought I had sent you a DC mail, but guess I didn't.
Maybe he's a practical jokester. Oh, well. Question:
1. MMF2 Pro...er.Dev or $100
2. MMF2 Standard or $50
3. TGF2 or $50
Now, in order to get the cash prizes, you WILL NEED PAYPAL!
That's not it!
Jeff has also told us that he has 5 "Mystery Prizes" to give out as well, so here's how we'll deal with those:
Best Graphics
Most Original
Best Use of "Christmas" theme
The "Oh so close award" - awarded to 4th place
"Round Table" - All of us judges will sit around like it's the dark ages, and pick one game that didn't win anything, and give the final "Mystery Prize" to it's creator.
So basically there are 5 prizes. 1,2,3,oh so close, and round table, because best graphics, most orignial, and best use of christmas theme, could go to any of the other 5.
This is the first time ive actually completed a game for a click competition. I'm expecting to do quite badly though because i rushed most of it in the last two hours lol.
I'm just happy to take part
I'd assume that we can start posting our games now. Since stealing someones ideas would be totally pointless (since you cant submit now anyway right?)
Just a suggestion, shouldn't you do a news post saying "XMAS COMPETITION OVER FTW" etc etc?
Or you could just leave it till the results I guess. Anyway, well done DC!
Or update the Xmas 2006 newspage... since that time counter is now counting away from the deadline date!

"Well, I have now submitted my game as a download. Hopefully this is not against the rules and some admin will approve it in the near future. Enjoy!!"
I took the time to read most of the huge compo thread. This is what Shab said:
Ok, for submitting your entries; not until after the contest deadline (So you can post them starting on Xmas Eve).
I take it, that it won't be much of a deal if you start submitting your game now.
Why did davince say this then:
"Well, I have now submitted my game as a download. Hopefully this is not against the rules and some admin will approve it in the near future. Enjoy!!"
Since lots of things Shab has said in the official thread were actually rules, the thing about posting games on christmas eve must be a rule also. There seems to be no official rulebook for the compo anyways. If Shab said it, it's probably ok.
Btw, why is noone trying my game out? Is it really that bad looking?? I think it is at least as good looking as christmas shaft, my last entry.
Its hard to be religious when certain people are never incinerated by bolts of lightning.
I played it and trust me, it's good. I don't know about mine though, I have a 6% chance of winning there are 9 more people that already have 5 more points than me. Mine is really just a simple, arcade-style, grid-based, game....all the others are more advanced. If I had heard about it in time I woulda made a Christmas RPG with elves and reindeer and stuff....oh well, I'll just save that for next year...By the way, how often are these contests? Just at holidays or what?
oh you totally must not be singling someone out here!
it was a grid based competition, so i knew that a lot of people were going to do sokoban clones/lode-runner style grid based platformers, because that's the first thing that comes to mind when you think of 'gridbased'. so instead of doing something predictable, i went and made something that hasn't been quite done in the klik community, a stealth game.
yes, the game is a parody of metal gear, but it's a well thought up one that required originality to get the plot together, and to make all of the elements fall together in a coherent, christmas way. i mean, it would have been easy for me to have put a santa claus in the game with a cardboard box, a box of cigarettes, a tranqulizer dart, and stun grenades, but that would have been copping out and not really thinking about the competition as a whole. and i even went through and created a backstory that makes sense as to why you're playing as santa claus sneaking through a house. if you're going to dismiss all of that as "LOL ITS STILL JUST A PARDY OF METLA GARE" then thank god you're not one of the judges because that's just looking at things on a superficial level.
Oh no! I LOVE your game! I was just wondering. I'm sure it will get 1st place and it makes me wish that I had started working on mine earlier, instead of working on it the day of. It's easy to see the differences.
I submitted my game to the downloads so you can see, and I'm sorry if I've offended you or anything because I didn't mean to at all, I was just wondering. I like your game a lot and it has got me interested in Metal Gear Solid.
Well, it is quite a complicated matter. The fact that you took MGS and gave it your own Christmassy twist is original, but you can't deny that the game concept is still Hideo Kojima's work.
BTW this Tim W. says on indygamer that 'Photographer' is the most preferred ranking. Is that so? Cuz I got that on my first try
most preferred meaning most people get it, not that it's the best. and if you can apply that same mentality to the rest of the games entered into the comeptition, none of those games are original by any stretch of the imagination, but i really don't care what you guys think because in the end it doesn't really matter what you think, i've gotten coverage on some big sites about my game, and a couple of emails, so stupid silly sore-baby comments don't bother me at all.
p.s. oh hay look that tiled based top down snes game about anime girls with hammers called panic in nakayoshi world would like a word with you!
Geez Podunkian, what's the matter with you? I loved your game and all I'm saying is: you're game might lose points on originality in this competition. And I ain't no judge, I can't decide shit on that matter. Just giving my opinion on the discussion is all.
You don't need to write whole essays to justify your game ideas. What the hell is the matter with you? Got a candy cane stuck up your ass from an angry MGS fan? You're acting like some noob who can't take criticism. I really didn't expected to see this kind of reply.
I agree with Hernan, seeing you run around here crying like a little girl and bashing the other entries is pretty disturbing, you made a good game that has a good chance to win the compo, but putting everything down is not really making that chance bigger, and is not making it any more fun for the other folks.
It's just a fucking TDC compo man, we all made a game for the fun of it, If you wanna win that bad I hope you will, but don't bother us with it, you're not THAT awesome.
there's a difference between "oh your game was a nice parody of metal gear solid, it played just like the real thing!" and another competitor coming out and publically stating "OOOOOOH LOOK AT HOW SIMILAR THIS GAME IS TO THIS OTHER GAME THAT WAS CREATED (THAT IT IS OBVIOUSLY PARODYING) I HOPE IT DOESN'T GET ANY POINTS DOCKED OFF FOR ORIGINALITY! *WINK* *WINK*"
edit: oh yeah, and why did you call me an asshole? was it for saying that i don't care what you guys think about my game because that's not a very asshole thing for me to do. or was it for pointing out that your game's concept was already done? because if it was the latter, maybe you understand why i am defending my game instead of letting it go.
hayo: i didn't bash on any other entries. i left behind the same helpful and intelligent sort of comments people have been leaving me about my game! oh wait unless this is some bizarre world where it's only right when i get criticism and it's UNACCEPTABLE AND BASHY when i leave behind critisicm on other games!
here's the extend of my bashing:
"the graphics are nice, but the gameplay is painfully generic, don't you think? it would have been nice if the game were a bit more christmasy instead of being a generic platformer with christmas tacked on."
"hahaha, this game is cool, the presentation is nice, and the game play is pretty cool too. "
"the thing about this game, and a lot of the other games on the competition are that they could very well have been different games if you had switched out santa claus/presents with another characters/obstacles. there's nothing that makes this game inherently christmasy besides the graphics."
oh man look at how rude i'm being! oh wait actually i'm actually giving reasons as to why or how the games could have been improved!
now let's take a look at your comments:
"Pod, why are you going through the other game entries and harshly judging them and unfairly at that?
Your game was really boring lol. I gave up pretty quick. People have been hyping you up mega style to me and I have to say Im not really impressed at their idea of "Awesome""
oh thanks!
"Nice stuff, doesn't really get me in the xmas mood, but I dug up metal gear solid for the gbc anyway."
oh sweet, i love getting comments that don't give any reasons but are just there to make me feel bad!
"Lol, Podunkian, you get really upset if someone don't treat you like a god because you put a santa hat on solid snake. =P"
"I agree with Hernan, seeing you run around here crying like a little girl"
"What the hell is the matter with you? Got a candy cane stuck up your ass from an angry MGS fan?"
"the thing about this game, and a lot of the other games on the competition are that they could very well have been different games if you had switched out santa claus/presents with another characters/obstacles. there's nothing that makes this game inherently christmasy besides the graphics."
Was the only thing that really bugged me and makes you look like a silly person who just wants to spoil the fun for other people. It's like "oh my god, all the other games are bad so I must win the compo!". Just chill down and wait for the results.
Not really. You spent too much on rib-removal to rein act your own birth. To tell the truth, I’m just pissed at how many people have hyped your work up to such an extent.
IRL EXAMPLE
19/12/2006 19:52:58 i'm worried about pod's entry
19/12/2006 19:53:24 y?
19/12/2006 19:53:39 pod is good
19/12/2006 19:53:44 amazingly good
19/12/2006 19:53:53 consistantly
people give comments on games because... they have something to say? it's not always about trying to win the competition.
after all i did give sleepy santa a very favorable comment. and maybe if you'd actually considered what i'd meant in my comment you wouldn't be upset about it.
edit: hey adam i'm sorry that other people like my games, i'll try harder to make them worse from now on so that people don't like them as much. i don't see how it reflect on me that other people like my games? did i go around forcing people to give me compliments? nope. did i force the game upon thousands and billions of people? nope. i posted my game as a link on a couple forums that i'm involved with as a nice christmas present to the people of the community. i'm sorry that they enjoyed it(?)
No Im linking it to how you went to other entries and judged them rather unfairly in some cases. Like Hayo said it was like a desperate attempt to better yourself.
hey adam why don't you read the comment before where i actually went through and copied and pasted all of judgements of the games that i played. i don't really recall any of them being unfair.
i was in the process of adding this to my comment as an edit, but it locked on me:
"actually fuck it i'm not going to bother with you anymore. i've already said what i've had to say, if you want to drag it on and continue trying to portray me as some big bad basher then go for it. i've been in the community long enough to know that with every good game developer there is always a bunch of kids trying to bring them down because they think that other people like their works too much."
continue being bitter little children, because i'm not going to deal with it until the competition results are in.
Sometimes I wish I were an admin to kapwn this argument.
HINT HINT MR ADMIN PERSONS
Seriously though. Pod may be a little over-enthusiastic about his competition entry, but that doesnt mean you should all have a go at him the way you are. You could still have a go at him, just don't be so rude about it. Because then you make Podunkian swears, and thats not good.
Each person is entitled to their own opinion. You don't have to agree with it. That's life. Deal with it, or you won't get very far in it.
And no, before you start, I'm not on Podunkians side. I don't know him, nor have I ever spoken to him. I just find your quarraling childish and unnecessary. It ruins the community.
Maybe because some people are being mean and not in the Christmas spirit they could be disqualified (even though their games are amazing) and then I could win!.....*sees no hope for my game*.
How often are the contests? I want to be able to be ready for the next one so mine doesn't look even worse than it is compared to others.
Oh yay, Podunkian wrote another 5 pages of his essay to justify the things he said and did. Why don't take a good look at what you wrote? It all started when awesomeasapossum said this: "Do the games that have parodied other games get points for originallity? I can see it going both ways...? It started here, NOT in the comments of the games. You're reaction to that was an angry tinted comment in the sense of "You're completely wrong, you don't know anything, my game was mentioned here and there"
This reaction was so childish, and all I said was: Well, it is quite a complicated matter. The fact that you took MGS and gave it your own Christmassy twist is original, but you can't deny that the game concept is still Hideo Kojima's work.
Your reaction to that was even more immature and you started belittling my game all of the sudden. It's AFTER that I got upset and wrote my 'candy cane' response. Because you were so insulted(?) and irritated, even though awesomeasapossum and I only wrote a neutral comment.
"OOOOOOH LOOK AT HOW SIMILAR THIS GAME IS TO THIS OTHER GAME THAT WAS CREATED (THAT IT IS OBVIOUSLY PARODYING) I HOPE IT DOESN'T GET ANY POINTS DOCKED OFF FOR ORIGINALITY! *WINK* *WINK*"
Don't be so paranoid. Take another look at our first comments. Do those imply that we hope you get less points? awesomeasapossum and I both like you're game, and I never intended to insult you or hope that your game gets less points in originality. I'm very sure awesomeasapossum thinks the same way.
here's the extend of my bashing:
"the graphics are nice, but the gameplay is painfully generic, don't you think? it would have been nice if the game were a bit more christmasy instead of being a generic platformer with christmas tacked on."
"hahaha, this game is cool, the presentation is....etc.
You're comments in the downloads are fair and irrelevant to this matter. It's your posts here in the forums that's bothering me.
Why am I writing a full page now too? Because I'm really disappointed in you Podunkian. I thought you were pretty cool (seriously) and didn't think you'd be such an emo about this. I'm almost tempted to call you arrogant, but for now I'll just call you self confident. I was hoping you'd apologize for you're behaviour, but knowing you I'm guessing that won't happen, and another long post is probably going to follow after this ~_~
EDIT: I really didn't want them disqualified it's just the only way I think I can win.
I lolled at that.
Jesus fuck. Even if pod's been a bit overboard (and honestly I don't give a shit about this drama), you can't seriously expect internet people to care if you're "disappointed" in them.
Ha! I was serious about that. I don't care if he cares, but it's a relevant point for me to write this kind of post.
I seriously think Podunkian is one of the best, but when you see him, like Hayo said, 'run around here crying like a little girl', yeah that pretty much changes ones vision about that person.
Hernan I do feel the same which is why in my second post to this whole fiasco I wrote this:
I'm sorry if I've offended you or anything because I didn't mean to at all, I was just wondering. I like your game a lot and it has got me interested in Metal Gear Solid.
