I see that the topic "The Wii is a really bad console" have nothing to do with wii bashing, so I created another one so we can discuss and praise this fantastic console.
I know we pre-ordered one with Play.com back in september but we still don't have one. Then I got a friend to hold on to one at John Lewis - didn't get there in time and it went. Got another mate who pre-ordered 2 who should be sending me his spare machine once it arrives for retail price. GAME and GameStation are both telling me it won't be until mid-Jan before I can buy one instore.
Spent launch day driving around with some mates on a hunt to find just ONE. bloody Nintendo.
I'd hate to say it Adam, but I told you so. I got my Wii on launch day. My friends and I went to K-Mart before they opened. I dont live in a big populated area so getting one was easy. Right now Im waiting on the good games to come out before I run out and buy another one.
I got me a Wii the day it came out, but I've been saving it for Christmas day. I've only got Wii Sports and Zelda though.
The console won't let me perform a system update to the News Channel. The Weather Channel and trial versions of Opera work fine, no problems updating for those. Or has the News Channel not opened yet?
woohoo I just played Wii Sports and Zelda in a friend's house. Fucking awesome.
The controller is way smaller than I expected, and the gfx aren't bad at all.
I'm sooooo gonna buy one....
Nope. Certain VC games can use the Wiimote (NES, Turbo-whatever and Sonic). The rest need the Classic Controller. No idea if its through some kind of license issues but some Sega games cannot use the Cube controller.
no i looked on the shopping channel, and by all games there was little pictograms of the controllers you need and by almost every system was a wii remote, by all systems was a classic controller but every system had a gc controller so you dont need a classsic controller if you already have a gc controller.
Meh! There's no amazingly decent games on the shopping channel at the moment anyway IMO and its like £6.99 for 1000 points, and games start around 500-600 points. Hmm.
Ok, so it works in the sense that when I turn it on, the light goes green... but thats it. I can't turn it off again without unplugging it. At first I thought, hey, my Wii-mote ran out of batteries, so I put some new ones in. Same problem. Then I thought I had it on the wrong AV channel. So I switched the connecting lead with my Xbox, and turned the Xbox on. Xbox worked fine, got an image, etc.
I was somewhat sceptical when I first got it as occasionally the machine would freeze and I'd have to unplug it during the mains. Was the console overheating? Nope. It was only running for about 5 minutes. I'm still pissed at Nintendo because they haven't bothered to confirm if my application for a dodgy wrist strap was successful, and I can't access their helpline until Tuesday (it being Bank Holiday and all).
To make matters worse, the News Channel doesn't work, and I purchased 1000 points and downloaded Donkey Kong Country. If the Wii goes back to Nintendo, I've lost that.
Actually Circ, you won't lose your DKC. You can delete it from your Wii as much as you want, and when you DL it again; it won't cost you anything. They keep server side records of things like that so you don't get double charged (Cause they anticipate people needing to delete stuff to make room for more stuff)
and for us fellow Europeans; Nintendo will launch a service to convert Nintendo Stars to Wii Points. Which is fucking mint... I've got 7500 stars I've got some stars left over from a DS Lite replacement too so if anyone wants them send us a PM.
Well there you go! I think its a very good system, or in theory since it's not out yet! Buying a Wii game gets you stars too, so effectively with each game you buy you can get a free VC game. Top trumps!
