Accelerometers so it can play videos both in 4:3 (stood up) or widescreen (on side). sounds like a mint bit of kit! they haven't announced price or storage space though so watch me cry in a few moments apparently it has an internet browser too but they haven't spoke about that yet!
Aye. the whole thing about the iPod was the simplicity. they better keep the same functionality somehow else I'll be keeping my iPod Mini. first and forthmost it should prioritise music.

Yea. I'm not buying. but its certainly nice to see where the iPod will go. I mean simply take out the phone from this, leave in the widgets/OS and stick in the 30 and 80gb drives and bam. I'll be getting my regular 80gb iPod tomorrow
It's basically an apple phone with a touch of mp3 and pda-ness on the side :\ No camera and other pointless accessories.. I hate these types of products that try to make a multi-gym out of a medicine ball (says me sounding very athletic )
If you want an mp3 player - you buy yourself a decent mp3 player
If you want a camera - you buy yourself a half decent digital camera
If you want a phone - you get a phone (no doubt unavoidedly with a slice of the above built in)
It has a camera. 2mp too, about standard in mobile phones these days.
It does have "pda-ness". it has iCal, Address Book, Mail etc. it uses an onscreen keyboard.
But yea. I hate all in one devices for the battery issue. I'm glad that if my GB Micro battery dies then my iPod and phone will keep going.
What's up with the current mp3 players? They play music, they are small and they are rechargeable. I can't think of one single improvement on my mp3 player (apart from more space, but I could have bought that with extra moneys).

Are you fucking retarted? Yes, you are because I knew that anyway. The iPhone has been one of the most anticipated products since when it was just a mere rumour. The thought of hardly anyone buying this, neigh nobody, is hardly worth questioning. I for one, will invest in this as the video proves it to be a handy piece of kit. I can safely say it's pretty much guaranteed to be a success due to the amount of feedback from before and after the announcement. Infact, if the phone isn't a success I will stick my penis in a blender, bathe my genitaless body in citris acid I dunno, take a picture?
You most likely believe it won't be a success because you yourself have no interest in it, which to you, seems to mean that everybody will have the same amount of interest. I'm tired at the moment, so I won't put any effort into this but the news of the iPhone's announcement was released today and upon it's entry into Digg.com, it pretty much recieved well over 10,000 digs in less than 6 hours.

They're hoping to get 1% of the phone market - 10 million units sold. running off the hype this thing has had, the iPod situation etc. Cingular didn't even see the phone before they accepted to work with Apple. That's one confident company.
I don't ever think I've had a mobile phone that works intuitively and well as a FUCKING PHONE. Even my first one had a bunch of superfluous shit and a clunky interface with bloated menus. I know an industry that needs to be murdered in the face with the unix paradigm.
Surely you must realise that hype doesn't equal units sold. The reason it will fail is because people can already buy most of that stuff already, and people would rather get 5 pieces of equipment than one bloody big one.
No new piece of kit which combines two things in one ever gets sold as much as the stuff it tries to emulate. The jack of trades with lose out to the master. Look at the NGage.
And "digs" (whatever the fuck they are) do not take as much effort as saving up a load of money and spending on what is basically a crap PC.
The advantage of a camera phone over a normal phone is that it can be used for spontaneous camera shots which you wouldn't get usually. This is pretty much the only 2-in-1 combo that works. Hardly anyone thinks, "Ooh, I've got a specific hankering to watch that Final Fantasy film and I can't possibly wait till I get home".
This possibly could be the end of Apple's wave of shite.

When companies all 'la-dee-da' things up like that, like "iCal" or whatever the "i" it is.. people forget there's already a perfectly fine calendar on their phones already .. in this case its just another gimic product - but they're bound to sell to those gimic-lovers out there, or to those who haven't had a new phone since the Nokia 3210
Anyway, I agree with you Noodle. Usually when they bundle a lot of functions into one device, they are often pretty low quality. And hype doesn't guarantee that people will buy it. NGage was damn hyped up (at least here), and it was still a flop.
Well, you know what Noodle, this time I do agree with you because now you've made a good point and not just blurted out it wasn't going to sell. Sure, we'll see but my guesses is that we can see something happening with the iPhone. Take's Apple's marketing and then the success of the iPod and you've got a decent guess that Apple could sell this phone very well. The N-Gage mainly failed not due to it being utterly shite, but poor marketing. I remember the release but don't remember anything other than that, no adverts, posters nothing. Poor marketing doesn't get you nowhere, but if Apple can maintain a good scheme in letting the public know about this, which shouldn't be too hard because it's already appeared on numerous sites such as BBC.co.uk and MSN and so forth.
For all I know, the iPhone could just fail and you'll sort of point and laugh at me and I won't really give a shit but the point is that it will most likely be succesful and I'll let you hold me to that statement.
I have to agree with Broomie on this one - the fact that technological devices are in such high demand now means that it most likely will be a success in the early stages. Whether it is successful in the long term would remain to be seen - but if you look at the PSP and DS lite, both of them sold out on release - but overall the DS has probably been more successful. I guess it also depends what you see as being successful as business have their own objectives.
We don't know exactly what this iPhone will be like - but from what the presentation showed, it sounds like it will be unique and there will be no other device like it (plus it's patented). That pretty much guarantees that it will be a success. Geeks don't buy these things because they will use the features - they usually buy them because they are something new and unique. At least, that's the case with me
So I have to say, I think with the reputation of Apple and success of the ipod (plus the response from people on the net has been pretty good) - it's likely to be a success. I think the price is very reasonable too.

That's just a friggin awesome thing to do I reckon. And if you think that convenience isn't a good thing then go back to the 80's. Apple have all the pieces in place. The most popular music/TV/film store, the market appeal and consumer desire, the most advanced handheld device going (200 patents) and the hardware to stream and control your media from anywhere. Perfect device for the phone market, since it's full of people who want the newest and best. What I friggin love about it is that it's not just an all in one device, but a media convergence device... in a phone.
Perfectly fine calendar on phones? Oh yea. But proper wireless syncing with Address Book, iPhoto, iTunes, Address Book, Mail, Safari and widgets? What about a phone that can be scheduled to tell EyeTV on my iMac to record TV shows, compress them and send them to my device? Lets see a fucking Nokia 3210 do that.

Wow I don't think Noodle knows or can afford a convenience device. Why is the Apple music store on it's 2 billionth download? Why is it the most popular download service and is the 2nd most popular music reseller going? Cuz it's fucking convenience, it's easy and quick. Like I said, you could be anywhere and start downloading a film. Go home and watch it on a TV (wired video out on device or wireless with AppleTV) or a mac or PC or anything. Or hell even start watching it on the ride home then carry on with a bigscreen at home. That's just a fucking incredible idea. There is definitely a market for that too.
Just as people download and purchase films off various online stores, iTunes and even Xbox Marketplace. There's a huge market for this, I'm sorry for you if you'd rather stick with VHS or watching regular TV.
my iMac has a little USB dongle that records Freeview TV in perfect quality and lets me skip adverts, rewind TV, schedule recordings and all that jazz. It must be bad because it makes it easier for me. I should stay back with terrestrial and a candle. so how's that wired remote doing?
edit: Oh and to your first post - do you have some magical music collection that doesn't grow? Because you know what, mine does! It's why I need an MP3 player with more than 6gb of space. Battery life increases every so often too. Features are added to make the experience more enjoyable, to provide better sound, better form factors, tougher hardware. There's nothing wrong with modern MP3 players but to say they can never be improved is ludicrous.
And the mp3 size doesn't matter. I could've easily got a bigger one, as they are available, but frankly most music is ballsacks. It's the idea of a combination of stuff which I am against.

To be honest Noodle I think you need to realise that just because you don't like something, then it doesn't mean it won't be a success and it doesn't mean others will have the same opinions as you.
I for one am not an apple fan-boy - I haven't ever bought anything from apple because I don't need to. But I can still quite clearly see that the iPhone will probably be popular and will probably be successful.
Flava, I think you need to realise my arguments, which have nothing to do with what I said.
I said iPhone will fail, and gave reasons before. Nothing to do with me not liking stuff - in fact I like all those things included in the iPhone, but on their own. Music yes, phone yes, camera yes, videos yes. But I can do all that stuff separately for probably around the same price, probably cheaper.
It all sounds like a big bundle of impressive tech. But it's kind of already been done with Sony Ericsson Pxx series of phones which have been around already for quite a while, I used to have one. Large touch screen, mp3 player, DVX player, camera, web browser etc. It's all there. You could even get a SCUMM emulator and run the old monkey island games.
But I sold it last year, and replaced it with a more conventional phone. Why?
You just don't NEED that kind of stuff on a phone. Watching movies on a portable device sucks. It's hard to concentrate with stuff going on around you, and if you've bothered to put it on the damn thing in the first place, chances are you've already seen the movie already. Fun cameras are ok to have, and like whats already been said, its only the combination that is really worthwhile. Mp3 player is fair enough, but even the top model with 8gb is too small for a decent music library. Using the internet on a portable device isn't great either, since 99% of the time there's just no need to- I'd rather use a proper PC/Mac when I get indoors.
Don't even get me started on how annoying a touch screen can be on a small device when you just want to do something quickly, or if you've been eating crisps.
I do admire apple because they're the only tech company which knows how to appeal to the masses (by making their products look sleek and making them easy to use). It's easy to see how they use design to appeal to people more than most other companies. But as with a lot of their tech, there dosen't seem to be anything ground breaking.

Yeah, and that's what you like and I don't have one problem with that. But you can't exactly presume that everyone has that state of mind, the iPhone can prove to be a handy item. Not just 'cool' features like setting AppleTV to record at home because to be honest not even I would bother about that, but working at Currys I do get a lot of people who are looking for this kind of product. In the last couple of weeks I've had people coming in asking if there was a PDA/MP3 and Video player all in one, and there wasn't. At least not any good ones either, but each one I told them about the iPhone and they seemed pretty interested. Unlike the N-Gage, this is more of a mini-computer rather than a phone that simply does it all.
People who aren't interested in this simply aren't interested, there's nothing you can do like how people aren't interested in games consoles to even films. But some people are and those people would find the iPhone a great product. It's not a fad, it really can be quite useful. I can't say that yet because nobody owns one yet except for Steve Jobs and Co whom I am using as a source for this. If it does go down the tubes, blame Apple or Jimmi, but not me. We'll just have to see how it goes, but I'm sure this will be more of hit than it is at the moment.
All I'm saying is, that the iPhone is for the people who would want something like that, it's not for everyone unlike the Nintendo Wii which is amazing because I've just completed Zelda and I feel so happy.

The iPhone will sell, maybe not be a huge success, but some people will buy it. And those people are idiots.
I'd only buy a new mp3 player/phone/tv/computer etc if my old one broke. Why? Because there's no need to constantly update my stuff. What I have works the way I want it to, I don't need to go wasting hundreds of pounds when i already have something that works fine.
