I was working on a game for around two hours, really happy with what i'd done. Suddenly, when I go to save it comes up with a message saying FAILED TO SAVE!, I try saving somewhere else- FAILED TO SAVE! When I close and restart it has completely deleted what I was working on. HOW CAN I FIX THIS IT HAS HAPPENED TWICE ON TWO COMPUTERS!!!
It happened once to me so far using MMF2 for awhile now. The backups only seem to happen when you save.
Usually when I work on something, I expect the worst. I usually save a new file every time something significant is done. That way if something does go bad as far as corrupt data goes, I can just revert to the previous file.
Ok so i'm not the only one, does the backup save make the copies in a different folder, or does do somthing else.
Especially that.

Try saving more often. I find it hard to believe that you can work on a game for two hours and not save! I am a compulsive saver, and I save just about every time before I press F8. If I make a major change to my game then I will save it as a differente version number and as a different file. By doing this I make multiple backups along the way and I can revert to them if need be.
I've never had a data recovery disaster like that, and you've learned the hard way that you need to make backups. Sorry.
ok, i will backup more, and i did save in the period of 2 hours, i save compulsively but its just that it corrupted the file and i couldn't recover it.
Save more.
I've got an Applescript on my Powerbook that pulls a nice backup off XP every 30 minutes. I've had too many problems with MMF1.5 and 2 losing files I thought it had saved. Get as many backups spead over as many media and computers as possible without interfering with the workflow.
There is an autobackup which can be turned on through the Preferences - it just keeps backups of the last x times you saved in case you do something disastrous. Trouble is I save so often that the last five saves are usually virtually identical.
I've actually found MMF2 to be much more stable than before, though... I don't think I've ever lost any work because of a crash.
It's funny, I always have my main game saved, and then a copy of it. The problem is, when I change something big to the game, I'll save both it and the copy. Sometimes a problem will pop up elsewhere in the game that I didn't notice beforehand and *POOF*- Two crap copies.
I think tonight I shall make THREE crap copies!

Naah. Just save it with increasing Build number. And from time to time delete the older versions when you are SURE that you don't need them anymore. I always keep some key builds every 50 builds or so ...
MMF 1.5 used to crash on me all the time and usually for absolutely no real reason. So far though, Multimedia Fusion 2 has yet to crash on me, since I got all the updates. I still save very often, just because it's so quick, easy, and can save you a lot of time, if you do happen to have a crash.
