Two years ago, a danish newspaper published some drawings of Muhammed. Those were followed by violent protests from the muslim community, and consumer boycotts in several countries. It ended with two of the artists going underground after threats of murder.
Now, swedish artist Lars Vilks have submitted drawings of Muhammed as a dog, for an exhibition on "the dog in the art". Unsurprisingly, it was followed by more protests. Swedish diplomats in Iran and Pakistan were summoned to respective government and received protests against Vilk's drawings from them. Now, what are they so upset about? See below...
I'm not anti-muslim or anti-Vilks in any way, but I do believe that it has been blown out of proportion. I want people to see this picture and realize how silly it is.

It's obvious you don't understand islam culture at all. To call a muslim a dog (or anyone in the middle east, even non muslims) is the lowest insult you can make. You're basically telling him is the lowest and most stupied lifeform there is on earth and should be treated as such. If you do that in a islamic country, they must likely drag you before a judge and you get sentenced for such a grave insult.
To draw Muhammed as a dog is a huge insult to the Islam and is the most disrepectfull thing that you can do to Muhammed..... as far as muslims are concerned.
Of course we all know that if muslims in truly islamic countries protest it hardly says anything..... they've all been incited to do. Propagated and often even paid by their goverments to do so. Most of the muslims could really care less, it's a only a handfull of dumb religious fanatics that do fuzz about and unfortunally they often have way to much power in those countries, putting presure on the goverments and the people through all kinds of threads. To be honest and no offense meant, but Islam is the worst and most threatening religion there is on earth. Wherever there are fanatic muslims, there's trouble and no decency or respect for human life and diversity at all. Islam is not a religion of peace, it's a religion of fear, threads, dominion and war.
"To be honest and no offense meant, but Islam is the worst and most threatening religion there is on earth."
And a few hundred years ago, you could have said the very same thing about Christianity. The fact is, every religion has it's fanatics. You've got conservative Christians blowing up Planned Parenthood and the like. Not to mention the scientologist fanatics.
"And a few hundred years ago, you could have said the very same thing about Christianity."
Nope I would not.... about Catholisism for sure, but Christianity and Catholisism are two completely different things. Christians always have been pursecuted by Catholics and in many places they still are.
Problem with Christianity is that most people who call themselves Christians are far truly from being Christian at all..... they never listened well enough to Jesus teachings at all: turn the other cheek. Problem with fanactic muslims is that they are true muslims, since they do what the Koran tells them to do: fight the unbeliever with the sword.

Oh did you guys know that Muslims complained about Ocarina of Time? Ninty were forced to change the Fire Temple music and the symbol on the mirror shield and on the Desert Colossus. I beleive the mucic in the fire temple consisted of some religious chanting which said something along the lines of "There is no God but Allah."

I don't see Christians rioting and murdering after Jesus is depicted as a silly person.
Fine Garbage since 2003.

-Working in television.
from time to time some smartasses try desperately to get some atention, but well they fail.
They complain because some unknown guy draw that stupid picture, yet they don't seem to mind about terrorism and murder.
As a muslim, I take offense at that. Well, at least I'm supposed to.
Actually, it's simple, Islam's pretty much becoming the biggest religion in the world. And much like Christian fanatics back in the medieval days started the Inquisition and stuff to show off their piousness, a lot of Muslims are doing the same thing. Had anyone even called Jesus a silly person in the pre-Reformation days, they'd have been hanged, flogged, burned, whatever.
Anyway, for those of you who don't understand the tradition, any picture of Muhammad is a heavy insult to everyone in the religion, it's pretty much like saying that your father is ugly since he's considered as a father of all Muslims. Now it's ok when you insult one person's father, but insult the father of millions AND put it in a newspaper *AND* citing that they have the freedom to insult anyone's father is bound to start a riot.
And then dogs are the 2nd lowest animal in Islamic culture, just below the pig. Heck, most Muslims won't even touch a dog without washing their hands in antiseptic. In fact, I've been taught at school that a wet dog is even of filthier than dung, corpses, piss, and blood. True.
"They complain because some unknown guy draw that stupid picture, yet they don't seem to mind about terrorism and murder."
> That's another flaw of western media + general human stupidity.. apparently the leaders of many muslim councils have had a lot of meetings against terrorism, but it's a few riots that make the big news. Heck, we even had some cool counter-terrorism action in SE Asia, but I don't think that made the news in Western countries.

> That's another HUGE misunderstanding, most Muslims make it and I tend to spend an hour arguing to them about it. There's nothing at all in the Quran that says that. It's a cultural thing. In fact, the Quran states several times not to fight someone unless they attack you first.
I guess it's all just because people want to pretend to be pious. And there's nothing more pious pretending than trying to fight a commmon enemy. The Crusades started because the Pope wanted their Christian brothers to stop fighting and slay a common enemy. It works the same way here.

I think peaceful Muslims can help change their image by being more vocal, as you have been. More Muslims need to stand up and say, "Terrosists/Rioters are not true Muslims. I do not support what they did. These people are evil and perform their actions Against my Gods will"
Well Muz, you talk the talk, but I see little of your community trying to stop this. Does any Islamic state do anything of substance to counter terrorism in their own country? No, and if they do, it has little effect. Do terrorists like bin Laden et al hide out in these countries with little fear of being 'fessed up? Yes, they do, and the government's are seemingly turning a blind eye - very unreligious behaviour it would seem.
I don't agree that those pictures are offensive either - they're just scapegoats to cause demonise the West once again. If your religion is absurd enough to have rules like that then so be it - but because someone in our countries draws a silly little picture then you feel people have a right to threaten violence and death? Islam is the only sizeable religious community I see which gets on it's high-horse like this - even Christian's today don't give a shit if someone slags off Jesus, after all, it's their choice to go to hell.
I used to be quite the apologist for Islam, but I can see it for what it is now.
No but, They use something else to justify it, such as communism or some other belief. Murder is Murder, no matter what your reason is. You shouldn't be defending those atheists. I don't defend the catholics "Christians" for the Crusades, I condemn them.
My God doesn't approve of murder, so the people who murder, don't believe in MY God.
Its not OK for anyone to murder anybody else.

There are civil law and there are religious law. Religious law only applies to followers of that particular religion, except for backwards countries. But civil law applies to you no matter what's your religion, and civil law says YOU DON'T KILL PEOPLE!

I thought it was because of it's lack of challenge when compared to Zelda 2: Adventures of Link?

I don't understand why some people need a book to learn about human kindness and rules.
It's okay to be religious and all that, but you have to set yourself some rules. You can't stone people to death just because that was the way of the law 2000 years ago. You can't be so offended by someone drawing Muhammed that it leads to riots, flag burning and threatening to kill someone.
We probably are better off without religion. Society advances, we learn new things, and we get rid of the rules that we see don't work... In the end, if humans live that long, I totally believe that humans will stop killing each other.
It's human nature to be religious, that is true. But we have seen that we can overcome human nature and maybe one day miles in the future we can be truly secular (everywhere I mean).
The most stupid thing in humanity is that we consider ourselves better and more intelligent than animals, yet we solve our problems between us the same way they do, by hurting ourselves, instead of using our so called "brains" to find a solution.

That's not true, humanity has devised ways to kill off more people faster than any animal.

Emotion is just another reason why humans are crap.
We get irrationally attached to objects.
Look at other species of animals, quite a lot of them show very little emotional attachment to things when they die.
Sure, they may 'mourn' as it were (they often show an inquisitive behaviour over the corpse of a dead animal that they have known) but they don't do anything like we do. They don't bury them, or cremate them (yes, I'm aware they can't cremate them, but they could bury them if they chose) they usually just get on with their lives.
Obviously there are some exceptions, and the fact that we don't know what they're psychologically going through after the death, but most experts seem to agree that they don't develop as much emotional attachment as we do.
Yeah, our main strengths (the ability to care and protect) is our weakness too (the inability to care and protect). A perfect human would have no emotion, so thank Allah there's no perfect humans around.
Well, just because some fanatics (most notably the middle easterners who pop up on TV all the time) that doesn't represent the whole religious community. Malaysia, Indonesia, Turkey has more peaceful Muslims than most other countries, but nobody talks of them. Why? Because peace doesn't make good news. It's all the more fun to take a small group of people who you don't know fighting against people on your side. The war in Iraq was a perfect example, millions of Iraqis were obviously against it, but every Iraqi on CNN supported it. Of course, if so many of them supported it, why were they throwing rocks, not flowers?
IMHO, religion is overall a good thing, because it forces everyone to be nice or else they'd burn in hell and stuff. Has anyone ever met a truly religious person (not the hypocrites) committing a serious crime? Why is it that there's almost no theft in Saudi Arabia?
Oh, and animals kill and have emotions just like humans. The reason humans bury/cremate is mainly hygenic. If we left bodies all around like animals, we'll there'd be a hell lot more diseases. Animals don't really have that kind of problem as there's not that many compared to humans. But emotions are a good thing too. Sadness discourages loss, anger/fear/hate promotes self-survival, and love/care promotes mutual survival.

It doesn't "force" anything; in fact, forcing issues is about the best way to lead to huge problems; as your statement on Iraq seems to support.
Doesn't Saudi still enforce the "get caught stealing and lose your hand" law?
"Well, just because some fanatics (most notably the middle easterners who pop up on TV all the time) that doesn't represent the whole religious community." - no, but it seems like the rest of the Islamic community is doing nothing to counter it. And wasn't there the Bali bombings not long ago? Suggests Indonesia isn't peaceful at all! Malaysia isn't as fanatical as the middle-eastern countries because less than 2/3 of the population is actually Muslim. Turkey is also a secular country, and in my view is the perfect example of a country run by Muslims, and not by Islam.
Laughter is perhaps the best weapon against delusional fanatics =
All religions should be insulted and made fun of as much as possible, since reasoning and pointing out serious flaws in religions obviously doesn't work.
