Ok so GameTunnel has gone downhill in the last years, they are not as active as they used to be and their reviews are flooded with affliate links, not to mention their partnership deals with pop cap and other companies. They lost their integrity, and unfortunatly it was the only place where we could find decent reviews and find new games.
So I've been thinking about creating a new indie gaming site featuring news, previews and reviews, some sort of gamespot with indie games.
So I want to ask if anyone is interested in wrirting reviews, previews stories etc... with me.
btw I've been thinking about the name.
Among the names I came up with, Indiegame Zone is the best and the domain indiegamezone.com is available.
Opinions ?
edit: joe you'd be very useful too ! If tim doesn't agree, then I can take care of the design myself.
Yeah that's not a bad domain actually! .. I still want to press on with www.KlikBox.net ... maybe we could use the same backend system? That'd be awesome..!
I'd love to help out with the design and construction anyways, where/whatever you'd like/need help with..? I can do php mysql etc and front-end stuff
Maybe some more info on like what content will be, too? Like the members/admin system etc, if you're having one?
yeah Klikbox is almost the same thing I'm planning, just adding a preview section (just like the reviews) perhaps a sidebar with the categories (action, adventure etc...) and it would be great.
Then every reviewer could post a review (or a preview) from the admin panel. Also it would be nice if in each review the users could post their own reviews on the game (a bit like gamespot).
About the host I already have hosting but thanks anyway.
What the hell, why have you put the doctype into an IE-only conditional comment???
Ok, sure that forces IE to stop working in 'quirks mode' (even tho IE is still wrong) but why would you want to stop your site validating properly in firefox???
1. Why bother about validating your page? It serves it's purpose fine.
2. FireFox renders CSS different (much better) than in IE. I include the doctype for IE because then it likes the CSS, otherwise, FireFox doesn't like it. So it's a nice quick and simple solution to the problem

I love Silvernova's current color scheme, it's pretty and it has a very "underground" feeling to it.
Thanks
Joe: I agree.
Alex: We could do video reviews as an addition to some of the most important reviews, that would be cool imo.
Tim, you should code the CSS for firefox first, then hack it around for IE. And all your if statement does is stopping it validating in firefox. Oh btw, how come half your site is valid xhtml and half sloppy html 4, it looks copy+pasted

1. I did do it for FireFox first, then worked around it for IE.. but my solution to one problem in IE, conflicted with the perfect workings of FireFox... All to do with the CSS. When I solved something wrong by making another thing right for IE, FireFox then went "ah but wait, now that's wrong!" and i'm like "yes I know but now IE... oh nevermind".
If FireFox could talk, anyways
And you'll find that's because some of the site is written in notepad, some other stuff in DreamWeaver. I am to get it functioning first KM, then clean up later. Now stop it you! lol
Sorry, I'm being picky as I do websites as my job. I suppose it works fine, and I'm guessing you're more of a designer than a coder too. It's funny because all the if statement does is make non-IE browsers not validate
I think it would be best to go for something that looks nice, but simple. The graphics on the Silvernova site are quite impressive, but it's a bit distracting and the menu links are really small.
Yeah I agree that we don't want something too 'over the top'. I've actually got something I did a while ago that I can alter a little and post - to see what ya'll think?
You're right but available 2-word domains are hard to find.
My current favourite is Indie Gaming (indie-gaming.com) it's easy to remember and it basically explains the purpose of the site.
Hmm yeah... though I hate having to explain to people that the words are hyphenated I'd much prefer a domain without the hyphen if at all possible, even if it means sacrificing a good word for it

The font is fine, and the gradients won't be that noticeable once you fill the boxes with text and stuff (though some sort of texture would be preferred). I'm not that keen on the logo background graphic though. There should be more contrast between background and foreground there, it looks a bit rough as it is now. Otherwise, not bad at all.
But seriously guys, you're just talking design and coding right now. There's more to it than just layout and design, you've gotta have content too. And an original name. I don't like any of the ones suggested so far (except for Jimmi's "ieatindies.com" one, lol). There are lots of indie gaming sites and blogs out there already. We've already got our TIGSource and Clickzine. If you want to get noticed then you must try and think outside the box, and do something different.
I'm not saying that you're not capable of doing something different, and I'm not saying that I've got any better ideas myself. But please, just sit down for a minute and plan out what you're gonna have on the site. Who's gonna be doing the reviewing and previewing and newshunting and whatever you want to do? Are you going to use a blog-type format? Would you need forums? Competitions? Rankings/lists? Articles, essays, tutorials, guides? Will games be submitted to the site by the public, or will it be the admins' job to hunt out new, interesting games? Will people be able to comment/rate games? Are you going to focus on Klik games only, or will you accept any kind of indie games?
I would recommend changing the color theme though, now that I think about it. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the guys over at TIGS called it a ripoff (similar blue color theme, joystick -> arcade machine). I know you weren't trying to copy TIGS or anything, it's a common color combination on the net anyway, but I'd change it just to be sure.
Sorry if my posts sound a bit whiney, I'm just trying to help. I'm actually glad that you're doing this, the Klik community needs a proper entrance to the "mainstream" indie community somewhere. Okay, that's all I've got to say for now
I'm not to keen on that. It looks like "just another site" with the scruffy blue/black graphics. The typography matches the design but overall it's difficult to read. Design looks much too cluttered after looking at something like Tigsource.
What's an arcade cabinet doing there too? A little out of place on a site for independent games?
Overall there's too much luminosity against such a dark colour palette. Not so good on the eyes.

Just my 2 cents =P
I already have everything planned when it comes to features and stuff.
It's going to be a general indie gaming site (freeware and shareware and not only klik related) with reviews, news and articles (like previews, interviews etc...), GameTunnel is the only (known) site with reviews and articles, tigs is a blog and clickzine is only klik related. I don't need a forum, at least for now, the user/site interaction will be done by allowing the users to comment and rate on the reviews and articles. The games can be submitted to the site but we will only review them if they are worth reviewing (if they come from known and reliable developers and/or looks professional enough) but we will obviously look for new games.
We have already 3 reviewers (probably 4), and I'm thinking about a site like gamespot game tunnel not a blog.
I think I answered everything lol
btw tim: It's looking awesome, I specially like the logo
