Would anyone be up for a quick game making competition soon? All theme suggestions welcome. I suggest we have a "Remake the first klik game you ever played" competition (that's RoDney, for me.) I'm thinking 24 or 48 hours, no "Make Amazing" books for prizes but perhaps an admin could make a wee forum icon or something.
I'm not getting anything done at the moment anyway, so I'd be happy to participate.
We need more klik bullet hell shooters. There's only one that I know of, and that's Radix's Elacsy. So let's all make 48-hour bullet hell shooters, 'kay?
A "cute" theme is good but I think it relies too much on graphics. I'd like to keep the theme in terms of design completely open, but suggest a gameplay idea.
So I'm thinking of running the competition tomorrow (Sunday) from whenever-you-wake-up-o'clock until midnight.
Looks like most people are free Sunday and Monday, so how about a 48-hour competition. Theme-wise, "old klik game remix" is looking likely, but I might limit to a particular group or even member's games. I also like the shmups theme.. Or how about a Winter themmmffahahaha.
I doubt we'd be able to organise prizes in time, Shab, but you could try if you think it's worth it (and thanks for offering.) This is just a hastily organised competition for fun.
Anyway, I'll post here again at 00:00 GMT.

Okay, so they were all good suggestions, but we're going with a SHMUPS theme.
Interpret that however you like, the rules aren't too strict since it's just for fun. The only rules are that you start a new game now and finish before midnight on Monday (GMT). Don't worry too much about being bang on time, we'll allow some grace time for those just finishing off (a couple of hours at most)

OK GO!!
That is EXACTLY what i've been asking for all this time. (the rules part)

I've never made one before, this'll be good practice! Here's hoping I'll finish! Thanks for the opportunity, Nim.

I'm sure you could make a great game in the time left. I haven't really started either - too much work to do :/
OK guys - anonymous entries/voting it is. Please PM me a download link and I'll upload all games in one zip file. After you've played them all, PM me your votes and I'll do some advanced maths to calculate the results.

holy bejesus thats exactly what I was doing before you suggested it, except I hadnt throught of a name. The main ship is literally a shiny triangle...
Its so unbelieveably buggy that i couldnt make an end screen work. It just sorta freezes. And Every time you do the game needs to restart because of errors. Most ppl will not understand it and hate it but if youve seen "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" you'll understand. The aim is to chase the white rabbit in a Jefferson Airplane while fighting your delusions. Every now and then you'll take another hit and more delusions come while your vision becomes more impaired. You can smoke nug to get rid of some delusions but you only have 3 tokes. The aim is to take enough hits of acid to black out.
Here's something Cows(formerly Batel) and I worked on together! Kerblargh! Sorry, it's kinda big. Cows made the intro, title, and credits. I made the level.
Well if I'm the only one anonymous, and I already accidentally sent it to Peblo, I might as well post mine too! Not that anyone would have trouble guessing it;
Thanks to the guys who have entered already! Looks like you had fun. So the grand total of entries so far is 4. Or 5, if you include mine (which hasn't actually started yet, and won't count in the final vote)
Hempuli, sorry you didn't have time to enter this one but there will be another competition running soon. FO SHO.
Alright guys, competition is closed but we'll allow a little more time for the stragglers (but no new entries, please). I'll upload a voting pack in 1 hour.
I was thinking that each participant could PM me listing the other games in order of preference. Do you think that's a good way to do it, or should we let anyone vote?
After I uploaded our games, Google went crazy and removed the pack, then my ISP went down for 6 hours. No one told me the internet was scheduled to explode last night.. Anyway, try the voting pack again now. Thanks for letting me know that the zip file was corrupt/removed.
Send me a PM, listing the games in order of preference. 1 - 6 points will be given to each game according to their rank in each list I receive. Don't vote for my game, I just couldn't handle the rejection.. and also I'm the competition organiser.
a-copy & paste:
WAMBAM
Blast Master 1.1
Walk
PixelQuest
Wizard Wing
FNL
I have a competition in me. I want no one else to succeed. I hate most people. There are some times I look at people and see nothing worth liking. I can't get doing this on my own.... with these... people.
Ok, we received votes from all participants (it would be unfair otherwise) and one guest voter. 1st place = 5 points, 2nd place = 4 points, 3rd place = 3 points, etc..
.. aaand, the results are in!
1st: Wizard Wing by Snerlin (28 points)
2nd: Blast Master by AndyUK (23 points)
3rd: WAMBAM by Adam (15 points)
4th: No More Love! by Peblo (14 points)
5th: PixelQuest by Pixelthief (14 points)
6th: FNL by Yuyu (12 points)
Thanks for taking part, everyone, and for getting your votes in quickly.

Minicompetitions like this should be more common.
Some of these games are more enjoyable than most GOTWs.
Except they should also get frontpage coverage so more ppl are informed.
Good luck turning your competition games into full versions They were all great games actually.
No competition this week, unless someone else would care to organise one. If it's up to me then I'll probably host one on Sunday 3rd. I like the idea of exploring unpopular genres for the themes, what do you guys think?
i think that if it was more than 24 or 48 hours i'd have a chance. because i'm so swamped with work and school and sleeping i dont have much time to create anything... creative.
maybe 4 or 5 day compo? with another simple theme? that way the entries will all be bomb.
Thanks for your support, guys. I hope you can all enter! Admins, puh-lease can we organise some kind of forum icon for a prize?

Don't worry about that. When I said "any time between Friday - Sunday?" I didn't necessarily mean that it would start on Friday and end on Sunday. I was really just wondering when most people are free this weekend. It's likely that it'll be arranged from 00:00 - 24:00 (GMT) on Sunday unless there are any OBJECTION!!s. By the way, theme suggestions are welcome.
This is just a mini-competition: no prizes, only eternal respect from your community peers. If anyone wants to read the "rules" from the last competition, they're here: http://www.create-games.com/forum_post.asp?id=211289&show=all#post_211718 . They'll be pretty similar this time. i.e. pretty relaxed.

There won't be many "rules", as such. Just start a new game based on the given theme and finish it before the deadline.
A little friendly competition between members is a good thing, but I don't want these competitions being taken too seriously. The purpose of them is to give people a reason to make (and release!) games.
I've got a good idea too but it's a little, er, experimental. I'll save it until after you guys have organised yours. I'm sort of busy this weekend but I'll try to make something for whichever competition is next. I'm also back in Japan at the end of March so obviously I won't be entering any around that time.

How about games where you have to control your character by hitting the keyboard as hard as you can? That kind of game is the most fun.
Oh lol, looks like Nim told the theme before the competition. Sorry, I didn't read carefully enough.
My theme idea would be Boss Fight. Is it good enough?
I thought the competition could begin at 00:00 GMT and end at the same time 24 hours later
I announced the theme at the start of the competition. Before that we were discussing suggestions.
Nice theme, though, and actually this was related to one of my theme ideas. I have a metric ton of work to do, but I'll try to find time to enter this.
Would be interested in taking part in beginning of April when I'll return from a trip (and have an access to my computer again).
Here's for hoping you can't agree on any important details before that which in turn would allow me to participate...
Edit: Aagh, can't remember what was the first Klik game I ever played, it wasn't that impressive... Anyway, something downloaded from Silky's old KNP site, I'd assume.
I haven't been around this site for all that long but may I suggest something on the lines of taking all these ideas (my suggestion is a musical based theme) and just doing a randomly themed monthly competition.
Theme can be posted on the 1st and you have that month to design/program/test. Just my two cents.
Whoops - I didn't see your latest reply cecil murderface murderface wtf. Yeah, that's a good idea. The reason I didn't do one in April is because of a lot of people seem to be entering the Twenty Event competition instead. How about one on April 27th, last Sunday of the month.
You probably wanna try another competition idea after the 20 event competition is over. There's real prizes to be won and stuff, so people are going to be focusing their ideas on that for now. At least I would.
Oh yea, this compo. Haha, nice thread revival. We could still do it if enough people are up for it. Isn't there some kind of super mega competition happening right now, organised by Peblo? I haven't been following this site or forums recently so I don't really know how that one works. Anyway, if anyone wants to have a boss competition, I'd gladly organise it.

Yes, there's this cooley 'tourey'. But I'd be ready for another compo at the same time x)
